Norcal Wrench Day: San Jose RHV Airport

Engine out success! Six people (well actually five normal people plus Bill...) Six hours and only one near death incident caused by trying to remove the engine without unbolting the DEVEK headers first. Only real casualty was the stubborn engine harness that refused to move through the firewall and ended up chopped in half, a victim of the setting sun.
Was a lot of fun, looking forward to seeing the new engine when it gets dropped in.

OMG..that was fun.
OMG..that sucked.
Soon to be for sale, just because I wont be supercharging again:
Devek Headers and a 4" exhaust, dual mufflered (but still very sweet sounding) with dual 3" cats, plumbed for dual O2 sensors as well.

Wow I did not know there some 928 wrenching being done close to my home. Was there any advance notice of the event ?
Sure would to attend the next event.
Any way I can be kept in the loop?
Is there a 928 website for San Francisco Bay Area?
Thanks
Steve

Oh boy, sorry I missed out on all the fun. I was writing a report- much cleaner work, and safer. Aren't you glad to be home for a while so you can bloody your knuckles?

Congrats, Jeff. Pretty good trade; absinthe at the Arctic Club for dirty fingernails. Doesn't mean you're excused from PNW gtg's tho. You can stash the exhaust system in the back and drop it off here.

I wish I could have gone, it would have been fun and I could have lent you the rear seal tool to replace it while the engine is out.
But I had some obligations with school, oh the joys of being a student at a culinary school.
I hope you can rebuild the wiring harness to the injection and ignition without too much hassle.

I may take you up on that Mike :-)
Taking stuff apart tonight as a matter of fact, debating whether to button it back up after I'm done or jumping right into the intake. I guess part of that answer is whether or not I need to spend another grand on the cam, oil pump and crank gears as the wife is going to start laying the smack down at some point soon...

Today I got all of the hoses out Im gonna replace, the coolant tank, the AC hoses to rebuild, PS hoses to rebuild...
It wont be show car clean under the hood, but high pressure aircraft solvent followed by dawn liquid with a mega power washer and a rinse..its pretty not bad.
I'll be doing upper control arms, steering rack and a few other things, if nobody has anything better to do friday at the airport.

Apologies if I missed anything but if you do not mind me asking, is the motor out because of the percevied need to do these tasks or are these items WYAT type of thing? Just wondering is the honey comb issue ingested anyhing- much as I doubt it.
If Colin is taking your exhaust just remind him that Industrial chimneys [like just about everything else] are not allowed in Canuck land!
Regards/good luck with the work

My supercharger injested something, and turned the compressor wheel into aluminum snow...and I Have developed a lot of cylinder blowby as a result.
It's good knowing that a handful of issues the car has always had, are being resolved in the process as well.

Saddened to learn of this- as a matter of interest, how did you detect the increased blowby- was it a a leakdown test or a smokescreen being chucked out of your industrial chimney?
I did notice on the honeycomb I tried that it seemed quite possible for a slither of alloy to break away at the edges- it seemed to fatigue very easily.

No smoke, just a well oiled underbody and 4psi of crankcase pressure when measured.
The honeycomb is in TONS of cars, and it only breaks down when large metal pieces hit it from your supercharger.
Norcal clean air is no more harmful to that, than the hotwire.
The honeycomb totally, abasolutely solved the drivability issues that the S/C intercooler introduced.
