If you search on google images for "CAD plating", you will see some examples, like brake discs, mine looked exactly like that. Yellow goldish color with spots of pink coloration. They had to do something special during the process to get the multicolor look. But he said the pink will go away and it will just be yellow cad color. Mine still has the yellow/gold coloration but its dull. CAD does not stay shiny like zinc plating. Maybe right after the plating it looks nice but in a few days it gets dull. Zinc will stay shiny until it starts oxidizing to protect the metal below it. I did the cad plating 54,000 miles ago back in 2010 and the car seats outside always and gets driven regardless of weather condition, but the cad plating still looks like it did a few months after I installed everything back in 2010 a dull yellow/gold color. I have a set of bolts zinc plated back in 2011 they have been seating inside my apartment. They still look shiny and colorful. I also have a set of CAD plated nuts and bolts that never got installed, they have that dull look to them. All done at the same plating place.
For reference most of the nuts/bolts on my 34K mile 90 GT which spent most of its life in a dry climate had a finish that looked like this:

Bob those are CAD and wow is that a great looking engine bay! I'm bummed I never had an opportunity to see that car before moving from MA.
By the way, if you want to make the oil cover and dipstick look new again use some Griots Interior cleaner and a microfiber cloth. They will look perfectly new with a quick wipe.

voskian,
Mine does look like that. My engine bay is very dirty and worn out, no belly pan either which I think helps keep the engine bay clean. The many drives I have done in rain or the little snow and ice we get here didn't help, but the CAD plating color looks very much like yours, except some small spots the yellow conversion coating have come off. I just looked again and I can still see some pink spots.
So I guess the originals are CAD plated.

Afshin, I knew you would probably notice that. 😉
I have cleaned those when I detailed the engine compartment.
I'm thinking of coming out to Parade 60 in French Lick, so maybe I'll see you there!

If anyone has any doubts, I can say that this event is worth the trip. I have been on "both sides" of concours on the avenue (showing and judging) Doug and Genie Friedman do a world class job of organizing a rather complex event....hundreds of cars taking over downtown Carmel during Monterey Auto Week. The turnout of quality show cars of all types is exceptional.
Throughout the week, The Concorso Italiano, Quail lodge, multiple auctions, pebble beach tour, and of course the pebble beach concours are ALL worth the price of admission. Just so happens the Ferrari Nationals will also be in town the following week.

Logistics - when do we need to arrive? Where is everyone staying so we can book a Hotel - I am sure that is not going to be easy.

Don't forget the fantastic spontaneous and growing car show Thursday night at the Baja Cantina right next to Quail, and the historic races at Leguna Seca.

I go every year there for the shows and auctions.
Last year was the first Werks reunion and that will be happening again.
then I work the Auctions downtown on the thurs/fri/sat nights.
I usually drive home every night because the hotel rates are ridiculous.

Hey, I talked to that guy in Scottsdale last fall. Met him at the monthly Cars & Coffee. He had a beautful car on display. looked like it just rolled out of the showroom...only better. He looked at my 928 and thats how the discussion started. Of course mine is not up to the caliber he is looking for but sure sounds like a fun show to go to.
Of course the biggest problem during that week is finding a decent place to stray within 70 miles. Super crowded !!

Assuming you get a room out of town, how hard is it to make your way around. Is there parking to drive to the events, or is it a public transportation kind of deal.

Alternatively, if you have DoD privileges (may be open to the public on space avail basis), you can try to get a room at the historic Hacienda at Fort Hunter Liggett. My wife and I stayed there back in '93 and it was pretty cool. It's a bit of a drive to Carmel, but if the gate at Nacimiento Fergusson Rd and Route 1 is open, you'll have a nice drive to Carmel.
