Also - anyone have a quick primer on bulb/lens differences by year? I know I've got the larger lenses, and online resources say it's a 9004 off the shelf replacement bulb, but as I look at aftermarket stuff "for the 928" it gets confusing as to which 928s they fit.
Hi Keith
HID replacement bulbs have ballast leads and CREE LED replacement bulbs have driver leads. I have attached a photo below.
Many Thanks
Steve

Steve is a very easy guy to deal with.
I have also fitted his Cree LED fog lamps and am waiting for the spot [driving] light ones he has had made to suit the 928 reflectors/lenses.
Hi Mike
Many Thanks for this post and all your support. So glad you like the bulbs.
Look forward to seeing your Aux Main beam bulbs in when they are fitted.

As you mention, one of the major benefits of the CREE LED's is the low power draw - for these high output Headlights they only draw 2.47 Amps.
Our manufacturers were really helpful when we are putting all this data together earlier this year and if anyone needs any other information or photos then please feel free to ask and we can see what we have or can put together.

My own MY88 black 928 S4 used to go through batteries almost every 8 months even with regular use so this was another reason for looking into the Bulb options for the car. We have been guided by our customers wanting us to look at offering more of the CREE LED light units to replace the standard bulbs around the 928's. One of the other big benefits I have found for my 928 S4 is swapping out the interior courtesy festoon bulbs. We have 5x 10w festoon bulbs that come on when you open any door! Crazy and they all give off excessive heat and melt the plastic lenses. Ever likely our car batteries tend to drain if we leave a car door open for any length of time. So we now supply a complete set of interior LED bulbs these only draw 170mA each bulb and light the interior of the car up like any new car does.

Lower carbon footprint, lower power draw, more energy efficient - I know that sounds corny.

When I first had the car my dash volt meter would read way down on the scale around 10v [I know they are not very accurate as a meter] but now with all the upgraded LED's around the car, when I am driving my 928 the dash is reading 12v - 13v. so that has to be better. Less stress on the Alternator and more efficient driving. Well in my mind anyway. I am happy with the results and hope everyone else is when they upgrade to our bulbs.

Get a pair of truck lite 7" Led systems from
Napa. Plug and play no issues. I've had them for 2 years with no issues. If they are good enough for the us military who they supply, they work for me. Very bright and one simple unit.

Hi John
Yes, that pigtail is the only lead to connect all the unit together.
It provides the driver power tot he bulb as well as the power to the fan. All in a treaded waterproof plug fitting for safety.

Thanks
Steve

Steve,

Thanks for taking the time to comment and answer questions, the additional info is helpful and I really do like the design.

New question: Do your H3's for Fog/Aux lights also have an external driver module? I guess they must, where is it typically mounted?

Thanks, Jim

HI Jim
Thanks for your reply & comments - it was running very late last night when I made most of the replies so hope I was making sense?

Our H3 bulbs are direct replacement bulbs so have no additional drivers or wiring - jut s a like for like swop out. The issue with the H3 CREE LED's is almost all of them you can buy from anywhere are too long and they push there nose up to the glass lens. I lost a few hundred pounds £'s in the search for bulbs that would work and am still feeling the pain.

So our H3 bulbs are custom made especially for Woodypeck ltd and are much shorter than any available from usual sources. This allows the CREE LED to be sited far enough back within the reflector to have the correct effect and maximise the display of the light pattern though the glass lens.

All our other LED bulbs are straight forward replacements with no extra driver lead. It is only the High Lumen Headlights that need the driver lead to generate the power for the large CREE LED Cob element.

Hope that answers the question - if you have any more please feel free to ask.

Thanks
Steve

This may help explain......
Here is a video we have uploaded to show how to fit the bulbs

Graham Martin of 928 Passion group on Facebook made this video at the 928.org.uk annual meet at the Merry Miller this year.

You must excuse the presenter - this was the first one of 4 fittings that I made of our CREE LED's in the car park at the Merry Miller so it was a great opportunity for other 928ers who haven't yet seen how good our CREE Headlights are and how easy they are to fit to our 928's

Hope this answers most of everyone's questions

HI Keith
I have mine mounted on the top of the light just behind the 2 spring clips that were used to hold the watershield in place.

Here is a photo of what I did with mine & most of the 928's I fit with our CREE LED bulbs
