It doesn't seem from the list if issues that you're in that bad a spot. My car sat for 13 years before I got it. I've done all the work on it myself with the exception of the transmission. There are a ton of good people on this site who will help you if you ask. There are also a TON of resources out there that basically walk you thru just about any repair you can think of.
Dont give up on the car. Once you get it running you'll be just as hooked as everyone else here

I REALLY like that color with the black wheels. Very nice...do you know what wheels those are?
Very nice looking. Nice to see you've got a sense of humor too.
If you don't give up you'll enjoy this car for many, many years.
It's always a little scary right after you buy an older car or truck and the rush has gone away. Any older car or truck will have issues.
But unlike many older cars, 928s are built to last forever but they must be maintained.

Glad I could get it started, then...at least I got something right today!
****, I couldn't even get the terminal covers off the damn pump! I've already broken the taillight cover trying to get to the bulb to test it! I'm gonna try to track down some local talent...God knows they couldn't do any worse.
Thanks again for all the helpful info that has been PM'd to me already!

You are very wrong about a mechanic not being able to do worse, they very certainly can and you will be paying them $100/hr or more to learn 928 fixing. Find somebody that knows the 928 well, fixes dozens of them, and owns all the manuals and special tools. Porsche dealer, Porsche only shop, not a bit of help, maybe worse because they will think they know what to do based on Porsche's other than the 928.
A wise first step is a PPI, pre purchase inspection, but still worth doing post purchase to get an informed baseline of condition.

That's a nice-looking car and you are doing alright, like everybody said. You have now heard from most of the great people on this list with great advice, so as one of the less great ones who is less likely to be of any use to you, let me just say that your mechanical skills can't likely be worse than mine.
One thing I've noticed with my car is that numerous electrical gremlins have on occasion been caused by loose relays in the CE panel. A great trick is to leave the car running and jiggle some relays; you may quickly find which ones are causing trouble with their loose contacts, and never mind what the relay diagram says they are for! In my experience, loose relays can wreak havoc with seemingly unrelated circuitry. My shop recently added a kind of "seat belt" for the big combo relay, strapping it down with some kind of bailing wire. That has settled down a couple of gremlins I was having.
Welcome and have fun,
Sean

Be very very careful taking a 928 to any Porsche-familiar mechanic. Lots of them haven't worked on 928s and it will be an expensive process of paying for them to learn and make mistakes on your dime.
If you're feeling out of your depth then at least ask for recommendations for 928-familiar mechs from other owners here on these forums.

I hate that fuel pump piping and nut design.... its almost impossible for me (hack mechanic) to get it tight. but, I had the same issue when changing out the fuel pump.... those "orange O rings" are copper crush washers. you might need a couple of them, but generally, you need to really get at that fitting tight. the pressure is close to 50psi, so think of a bicycle tire, but filled with gas! so, it needs to be a very tight fit and getting leverage to do that is not easy...maybe some one hear has a solution for the right tools to do it.
The rest of the stuff, is not too hard, but takes time. Have fun and congrats on your new acquisition. they are great cars, and once you dial them in they are amazingly dependable. I started out being scared of clutches and timing belt changes.. now I can do them in my sleep, mainly for a lot of help from folks on this list.

I am searching and downloading all the PPI links / forms other 928 owners put together...so many things you may never think to test like the 3/4 tank vs full bug.

relax;
this is your hs dream girlfriend coming back and all she needs is a good diet and exercise program, botox and a makeover. all normal Porsche/VW/Life in Bosch stuff.
you'll get everything sorted in no time.
yep, he'll fall in, or get his legs blown off in the rice paddy over the next ridge.

These cars are awesome and if you stick to it, everything wrong with that girl will be made right, with time and perseverance. And THAT is an incredibly rewarding feeling.
I have had my '89 GT since '92 and 10k miles. She has 115k on the clock now and is still the dream car I lusted after in 1990. She has been VERY good to me and incredibly reliable, yet she is a demanding lady.
In those miles and years she has had a couple of clutch and waterpump timing belt jobs, the usual tune up tires and brake refresh as well as more in cash spent on upgrades from cup IIs, Aero mirrors, leather nicities and a Murph Supershark install. I have lost track of all the upgrades...... Though 928 Specialists and 928 International, Louie Ott, and Champagne as well as others prolly have pretty good records..
Love the car........ and it is Still a head turner everywhere it goes. Gonna be eligible for antique plates this year......... Most folks think it is "new".

The AC working would clinch the deal for me!
I really believe it's the luck of the draw with these cars (maybe with all cars?). I've got more than $25k and 6+ years in to my car and still its no-go. In hindsight I may have benn better off buying a couple of lower priced 928's and just driving them in to the ground. I'm sure my $/mile average would have been higher.
