Hello experts,
After 7 long weeks of recovering from an ankle blow-out,
and after ordering the wrong replacement fuel lines for my 1981 928S euro, and after finally getting the awesome new fuel lines installed,
Tonight I took the 928S out for a quick tour of the neighborhood.
Wow! Fun! No fuel odors! No visible fuel leaks, I am feeling like a real mechanic !
Back into the garage, she sounds great, and I shut her down and open the hood to admire my incredible skills.
Hey! What's that green pool sitting on top of my engine?
The TB/WP was replaced on my 16V by the PO less than 1000 miles prior, and she has never as much as sneezed prior to this.
Looks like I have another job to keep me occupied this winter lol
Photos to follow, first 2 photos for orientation of the pool of greeny freeze..

Check all the hose clamps in that area. Most likely it is big O-ring at the base of the water bridge. Mine has started to leak at the base when the weather gets cold (seal and metal shrinking enough to let it leak). I notice the leak will stop after the engine heats up. No leak at all over the summer. Have the parts and will replace all the seals in the water bridge and the thermostat over the winter.

My leak in the same place was the small middle hose shown in your picture. The hose had gunk on the inside that allowed a small but persistent leak to fill the V. Found the leak, cleaned the inside of the hose, reinstalled and tightened the clamp. No more leak.

Also look at your heater hose coming off the water bridge.
Mine developed a hair line split on the bottom of the line just aft of the nipple on the bridge and shot coolant all over the place.

I just remembered another detail,
last night prior to noticing the leak was the first time I have ever turned the heater "ON",
I now wonder if that helps narrow things down a bit more??

Sure might. Look at the hoses from the engine to the heater valve, valve to heater core, and heater core to reservoir. And the heater valve itself. These hoses are too often ignored, and they deteriorate as fast as all the rest of the hoses under the hood. Replace them all, along with the heater valve, and enjoy another 20+ years of bliss.

that's the best leak to have if its head gasket as barrs stop leak will solve that issue as long as it is not a hose clamp or something simple. However, it does look like a lot of coolant, so maybe it is the upper heater hose because it would drain right into the valley.

Just a reminder that many parts plr aces will free-rent a cooling system pressure tester. Lets you u p a little pressure into the system cold so you can more easily find coolant leaks. Removes a lot of guesswork.
