Thanks Leon.
The modulator is the red part with the black cap.
But I think Philippe is asking what is the black connector at the right of the selector arm.
Don't know!

By the way, your French is perfect!

Ah oui, l'interrupteur, bien sûr!

That is the starter locking switch, the engine can only be started in selector lever positions "P" and "N". It is also a switch for the reversing lights.

Thanks Leon.

Learn something again today!

Regarding Philippe's problem, what could be the cause of a no first gear start? All the time.

Well I am certainly no expert but I do think that most of the time two factors play a role: adjustment of the bowden cable (which he seems to have done, just not sure if correct) and modulating pressure. Hence my advice to check if the modulator valve holds vacuum. He also seems to have replaced some pistons in the valve body and changed the oil. That might be enough unless there is another problem with the valve body. That's where my knowledge ends.

The modulating pressure - I think - only make the shifting smoother (or harsher).
It is important to check the rubber cap on the modulator as if it is not good and leaking, you'll get a vaccum lost and have problems (harsh shifting).

The rubber cap can be bought separately.

Philippe,

Translation:
Thanks Bertrand, Leon and Phil for your comments, Nice from you.
My 928 never started in first gear but all other gears work very well.
I will check the kickdown, the bowden cable and the modulator.
Will let you know then.

Do you know how to put a picture in my avatar?
Have a good night, it is morning for me!!!

Belles voitures Philippe.

Coucou à tous, me revoilà !!!
