Default 928 engine block dimensions

Hi guys!

New here, but have had the pleasure to surf the forum for a while.

For my project, can anyone help me with the length, width and height of the 32v engine with/without its components?

PS: I've searched but have not found it mentioned any place - so far.

hello, and welcome.
are you looking for the bare block or block w/ heads, manifold and pan?
may help if you tell us a bit more about your project, fitting a different engine?

I don't have one handy to measure, but the bore spacing / length is almost identical to a big block chevy. These are not small engines.

I'm almost positive they are taller / wider too due to the 32V heads.

I have a few engines in the shop, most of them taken apart except one. It is hard to measure the dimensions accurately but I find the Length to be 785mm (flywheel not included), the Width 780mm and the total Height 650mm. Note this is a German made-machine so the metric system is the only relevant but if you like the imperial dimensions divide by 25,4 for one inch.

Hi and thanks! This looks like a very good forum with high quality members and level of knowledgesharing. You are correct; my reason for asking is a chassis without any motor in it, so the measurements would help me decide on which route to go.

What kind of chassis?

I've been debating on swapping the 302 Ford in my Factory Five with a 928 motor.

Hi and thank you.

Got that.

I found this picture (link below) in another forum which try to show compare a couple of engines, but no dimensions though.

Hi.

It's a 928, but its a chassis with no engine in it. I was wandering how big the original 32v was compared to the Audi 4.2 V8.

Well, it was monstrous compared to the Audi v8, just from experience, bit also knowing the Audi V8 shares bore centers with the four cylinder Audi/be engine, where as the 928/944 is much larger. I think the Audi is about 100mm. The amazing thing is that, yes. The 928 should be capable of at least 8 liters with the right wet liners and a little extra stroke.

Over here in the old world 6 liter engines have been built with the standard stroke (bore 110mm). Stroker engines 6,5 liter (bore 4.125", stroke 3.750") and 7 liter (bore 4.250", stroke 3.750") have been built over there. 7,5 liters should be doable, 8 liters probably not.
