Default Alternator fails to energize

My energizer circuit was working reasonably well until a few days ago. Most of the time it worked as designed, but now and then I would have to rev the engine to energize the alternator. Now, all of the pod gauge lights are illuminated, including the alternator gauge light, but the alternator will not energize, even at 3500 rpm. I ride down the road with the alternator guage reading 10 volts and the dash lit up like Christmas and the master caution blinking. I was going to pull the pod, but the alternator light is on and all threads indicate that it will energize the alternator even if the resistor is bad. Where do I go now, the regulator?

Check your blue wire (pin 1) at the 14 pin connector and see what condition it is in first, and if it's fine then check continuity between there and the alternator. Would be my first guess.

Please disconnect your battery.
Separate and clean the contacts on the 14 Pin Connector located in the engine bay on the right front side fender.
Use a good electrical cleaner, the Alt exciter circuit flows through this connector, if that doesn't work check/clean connections on the Alt.

Remove the exciter (small) connection to the alternator. With ignition on - the (no) charge light should be out - if when you reconnect it the charge light comes on then the fault is in the alternator, most likely just the regulator - but it may be worth taking it to to have everything checked at a good alternator shop - particularly if you think it's the original alternator.

Default Alternator exciter

Headed for the shop for alternator inspection.
