Default '85 Radio Harness: Is this a factory fuse?

Slogging through the PO's aftermarket radio wiring (the lamp wire jury-rigged to an XM cigarette lighter adapter power supply was a nice touch.....).

Is this fuse supposed to be there (from the harness resting on the tunnel)? The wiring diagram shows a fuse on one of the wires, but it's marked "fuse installed in radio", which leads me to believe that it wouldn't be an inline fuse like this. Right? Is this the harness that powers the amp?

I wish I could be of more help. I removed the factory radio and installed an after market Alpine, but I don't recall an inline fuse.

There is supposed to be a red wire with an inline fuse that powers the radio. It's the one that comes off of the ignition switch and provides "switched power."
See if that one has power when ignition is on, but dead when off.

It's always hot. I didn't check yesterday, but the PO pulled the amp anyway. Since the radio is fused internally, I'm pulling this one.

I don't think so... what year do you think this is stock for?

Most years there is no radio fuse - except the one on the radio itself - silly really considering the kinds of butchery that regularly happens in the console...

I could have sworn the wiring diagrams for my 85 showed an inline fuse.
But when I go back and look...

It's the one in the radio.
Duh.

Hey Jeremy;

I don't remember an inline fuse on the original radio set up of my 83. I see you are really digging into her now!

What are the wire colors on the fuse lead?

The flash sort of washes it out, but the fused wire is red, and it's in a harness with a brown ground. I think these are the wires:

What started out as a quick radio replacement has now become an HVAC vacuum repair too!

What's throwing me off is that every other wire modification has been a complete hack job. This fuse splice looked professional.

Well it may have been done by someone else... I do think it was added - its not such a bad idea - but its awkward to change!
