Anyone live in Anaheim, California? Can you look at a 928 for me?

It WAS the Brown one. I got beat in the last seconds. Lost by a few hundred bucks! I would have gone higher but it needs work and transposition to NJ. Someone got a great deal. Last owner bought the car in 1997. I was a little worried about the Brown color to bid much higher. Love the cork interior! I don't mind the Brown but maybe hard to sell down the road. I don't believe it was 175k miles. The 1 was half showing. Interior looked exactly like my 79 that I sold in April. I'd say that was a 75k mile car with an interior that nice. LOVE that full leather interior. Was it anyone here who got her?
Thanks Greg for looking at it for me. Wish I got it but had to set a limit considering it was not running on all cylinders and running hot and brown and the odometer discrepancy. (Title didn't have any miles listed)

I thought it was the brown one too, and I had been watching it in my eBay since before you started this thread. I too could tell that this car is a sleeper, especially about the mileage. I had an S4 do something similar with the odometer, and with the overall condition of the 79's interior and the very clean engine compartment I am pretty sure that it has only about 76k miles.
I bought it and am thinking about putting a UPS bumper sticker on it that says "what can brown do for you."

Really? You don't think under 4k for a mint full Leather cork interior and minor skuffs outside is a good price? Did you notice it even had the original OB luggage cover? Original ones in good condition are unoptainable. I would have paid 500 for that alone when I had my Petrol Blue 79. I know there is an aftermarket one, but it's canvas not the mohair(sp?) original! I guess brown color knocks some value out but I didn't mind that. Makes it look even more vintage imho.

With all this information and the apparent desire for a car like this I am amazed that my modest bid authority (only a bit more than the purchase price) was sufficient to buy it for under $4k.

Congrats Jerry. I was SO tempted to keep bidding. The shipping was the killer for me. Please let us know what the issues are when you get it. I.e. running hot and running rough. I bet they are NOT major issues. I think you got a great deal!

I spend an hour or so looking this beauty over, for "sweet 928".
Tough to believe it has 175,000 miles on it....looking at the interior. It has one of the nicest OB interiors I've seen in the past 15 years. It is a rather strange mixture of leather and what I would call cork. on the door panels.....however it is in amazing shape. Virtually no shrinkage on the dash, center console, etc.
The top of the engine has been freshly steam cleaned, and while that might be the running problem (water), I'd guess that the car sat for many years and the problem is injection related. And gummed up CIS can be a real disaster....
The underside of the car has a nice coating of oil that has been leaking from the engine....there's no danger that anything under this engine or vehicle will be rusted.
I ran it, tossed in the clutch....and immediately shifted it into reverse....without any noise or grinding. That means that the clutch releases, which is amazing in itself! No noise from the engine, torque tube, or transmission....just a multiple cylinder misfire. Pretty amazing.
Brand new tires, brand new battery. Spare tire, jack, lug nut wrench, etc.
The paint/body has been "bounced" around some....there's not a single panel anywhere that hasn't got a little dent (including the roof, which has a rather large dent in it....looks like the garage door came down on it, sometime in the past), however the paint itself looks pretty good, except for the top of the passenger fender, which has pretty bad water spots.....and the car obviously had just been heavily cleaned.....so I don't know if that is permanent or something that can be buffed out.
An exceptional OB, with great potential. I, personally, would have a bit of a tough time getting used to the two different textures and colors of the leather pieces and the vinyl, but that is just me. While I don't follow the prices very closely on these cars, difficult to believe this thing isn't worth what was paid for it....what are you going to buy for less than 4K?
