Default foam under hood sound isolation

Well, I just bought a nice piece of sound deadening material for engine bays. It's black and has a top layer that won't absorb liquids etc. Looking good but I think it's too thick. It is 25 mm (1 inch) thick so it is thicker than original and stick out above the ridge of metal. What thickness was the original? I can't tell, it's no longer there...

The original is 10mm/1cm thick.

I know you already have your own material but thought I would pass this along...

This one seems to be a popular choice over the OE liner (in 6.5 & 13mm sizes)... This link is to Rob Budd's shop but I think it is carried elsewhere too...

Jager has the one I bought, which looks like it may be the same as Rob's. I haven't installed it yet though...

I like the original ones. I think Porsche still has them and they are peel & stick.

Do the Porsche replacement liners have the waffle pattern? I've seen some in the waffle pattern in a more dense foam than my original liner, but don't know the source.

25mm thick is too thick by far for a hood liner - you won't be able to make it look right, similarly 6.5mm is too thin...

I dislike the stock liner - I think it looks cheap and it really does not hold up well in the long term.

I have used 1/2" (~12.5mm) aircraft bulkhead nitrile foam SP-500 from Wickes Aircraft Supplies This material is very heat resistant, fire retardent etc. I have had it installed for 8 years and it still looks exactly as new (in the Phoenix heat driven ~every day).

Its thicker than the stock foam which to me means you get a superior (snug) fit at the edges - cut a little large and tuck the excess for a perfect finish. One side is bare foam (glue) and the other is a smooth vinyl (visible finish).

Well I've posted about it before - but here are 2 pictures one from mid 2006 when first installed and one from mid 2014 - 8 years later. I can't really tell any difference... looks and feels the same.

After 8 years the stock version was already getting a bit brittle, after 12 years it was falling off in chunks

Use 3M 80 spray adhesive - many others do not hold up at all well with high heat...

We sell only the stock original foam insulation and Porsche has improved it.
So simple to fit and looks like it came straight from the factory.

Just looks like the original - waffle shaped - totally stock. We also have the smaller top hood panel for the earlier cars.

Well its good that it has been improved - it needed it. However I still really don't like the stock look - But - that is the only option for the purists of course.

1/2" Dynaliner fit perfectly on my hood. Feels good, first class adhesive that is not coming off come Hell or high water.

I have to wonder what exactly this liner stuff is supposed to do.
