Mainly noise reduction (presumably both transmission & panel resonance deadening) & perhaps some equalization of heat to the hood paint.

That was going to be my guess also Alan, but the engine heat does not seem to be an issue with the exposed paint on the hood pan underneath, and I don't think that thin layer of foam will dampen much sound and will absorb only a bit. I doubt too that it will block much. Even then I wouldn't think the noise from the engine through the hood would be much of an issue unless one was riding on the hood.

You can tell when there isn't insulation, i'd say it doesn't reduce them just dampens/smooths them to a smooth din rather than sharp noises. 928's have alot of sources of noise, intake, individual drive belts for everything, alot of vacuum lines produce a constant whoosh sound of air flowing.

I've installed a number of different materials and the only one I'm happy with is the newer factory set up. It's cut to fit, doesn't shrink when hot and stays on the hood for more years than I've played with it. Some of the others, while looking nice, seem to fall off or shrink when applied. The Texas heat isn't really nice to some materials.

Really?, it collects all the fuel and oil vapors so when the fuel line lets go a well insured owner gets a new (another, better) 928. I thought everyone knew that.

Well shucks... here's my hood looks like w/the original liner gone some time ago.

Nope, no Texas heat here in Hawaii. Just good 'ol tropical sun and a little bit (not a lot) of humidity (thanks to the trade winds!). And maybe a poor paint job (on hood) to begin with...

I'm actually waiting to get my hood repainted before I install my new (non OE) hood liner.

I'd say the Arizona heat is the gold standard test bed here...!

Jerry - the dense 1/2" foam I used is certainly capable of sound reduction - the stock material - not as much for sure

Alan, tell us more about the large Porsche logo...

Is that just a giant decal you stuck onto the foam?

If that is a plasticised decal, is there any danger of overheating/melting over the engine ?

It is a vinyl (self stick) decal. The visible surface of the nitrile foam is a smooth shiny finish - application (with the hood off) was pretty easy.

You calculate the danger - its been on there for 8 years in the Phoenix heat driven almost every day... there may be hotter places in the world - but not many...
Its not coming off & looks just like it did the day it went on.

Alan, do you remember where you sourced that large decal?
I do like that look. Breaks up the boring solid colored foam pad.

What about the smaller front section of the hood..?
Didn't your GTS have stickers there? Did you cover those up?
And what happened to the smaller decal (red PORSCHE letters)?
Did you remove that one or did something happen to it?

Thanks!

It was from eBay - guy who sold lots of decals (all makes) - not sure who exactly.

My GTS had no stickers there. The small decal did not stick well so I actually removed it after just a few days. It was very different style from the big one - it was mounted in a transparent field which looked odd. It was actually a freebie with the big vinyl decal - was not originally part of the plan - so deleting it was easy.

I got my pad from Jager, I'm pretty sure it comes with one of several different decals, if you so choose.

My small panel has some sort of emissions thing in it, but I was just going to glue around it. I can't see me or anyone else actually needing to see that (at least, not in Florida...the car came from California though).
