... doesn't the GT shift boot cover the entire console opening?
Tom,
Yes, but the leather boot shrinks and gets really taught on the frame and looks like a flat panel.

Hi Tom. What looks like a flat panel is actually just about that at this point because the leather that was kind of making a boot originally has shrunk so much that it is now flush against the frame that it fits to around the opening. The only part of it now that is boot-like is what you see at the base of the shifter. Nevertheless, what you are looking at is all the original leather boot, just shrunk very much.

Perfect time to upgrade to the much better '91+ shifter.

I should clarify, my numbers above were for North American production. There are certainly more Velvet ROW cars out there, too. As I recall, yours is one of those - correct?

If you haven't done so already, please consider adding yours to the 928 Registry.

I picked up this car yesterday from a great seller. Originally sold by Clair Porsche here in the Boston area with a $77K sticker price. It was resprayed once in original Velvet Red but the plan is a proper high quality glass-out respray and removal of the "928GT" graphic on the rear bumper. Due for a timing belt & water pump (first on the list) and other deferred maintenance, but she's a strong runner. I know, 'didn't happen w/o pics', so will post a couple shortly.
More to come...

'87 Carrera coupe (mods underway)
'86 Carrera targa
'76 Carrera3.0 targa
'06 Carrera S coupe (sold)
'80 928 5spd (sold)
Lots of others over the years

Wow, missed the original post....I'm hoping it went for way more than I would have opted in for...that's pretty much a certainty anyway. Looking forward to more pics.

How many opportunities are there to get a shot of a Velvet Red shark with a cranberry bog in the background?

Congrats on your purchase! Velvet is probably my personal favorite color on our 928s. It varies dependent on light - in the late evening sun it is a very warm color, in the bright mid-day the silver metallic really shines through giving it a hint of the Silver Rose that you find on those special 944s. After sundown, it's darker like a fine Cabernet. Just a really neat color - enjoy!
