Chevrolet Avalanche Owners, whose vehicles have plastic trim whose surface area is about the size of our cars, are big fans of this:
It is called Carworx Refinish Restorer and I may give it a try when my supply of Back to Black runs out. Pretty damn expensive but if you can put it on once a year, it might be a good investment.
Seems to work well on the Avalanches:

I could never figure out why anyone would want to wax their turtle....

I once used Kiwi leather shoe dye on a piece of fading black plastic and it did wonders. I then tried it on some rubber with similar results but it took a noticeably greater amount to get a nice coating. That being said, I've tried a heat gun on plastics and tire shines on it all and wasn't happy with the results (heat gun took out some white, tire shine attracted dirt).

I've always had great success with Mother's Back to Black. But now I use Adam's VRT. It works great also.

I almost hate to say it but I fell for the TV infomercial for "Wipe New". I ordered it 18 months ago for my 2000 Toyota Tundra that is always parked outside in the broiling hot-Arizona sunshine (Summer temps consistently above 110F / 43C and very low humidity (often less than 10%). The truck has large black textured plastic fender/wing liners, bumper trim, etc. They were totally faded to light powdery gray from the intense sunlight and low humidity here. I wiped on the Wipe New and, as advertised, it made the the faded plastic trim look like new. They still look great a year and a half later.
Every now and then I spray on a bit of shiny stuff (Armor All or whatever is on sale) when I want it to look extra bright, other than that, nothing but lots of cheap drive through car washes. Other than mechanically, I don't baby this truck because, well its a truck and I use it like a truck loading it with all manner of stuff to take to the local landfill/dump, hailing gravel for landscaping, moving stuff, or taking it off road. Cosmetically it is a 6.73521 out of ten. The best looking part of the truck is the engine bay / undercarriage (clean always) and the wheel liners.
A great product and not very expensive.
