Default water on floor from a/c?

pulled the GTS into the garage this aft after a spirited run and heard water dripping onto the exhaust and garage floor.

It was very humid today..........is there an issue with the a/c system? seems to cool the car ok.

No ... condensate from the system inside is draining to outside where it's supposed to. On more humid days you'll find it dumps more, and is more noticeable, and with less humidity you may not even notice it.

I looked at the evaporator drain plumbing on the Honda Pilot that shares garage space with the 928. With a little creative re-routing, I'll be able to get the condensate to drop onto the stainless piping instead of leaving a puddle (and subsequent water mark) on the otherwise-immaculate garage floor when I park. Just like the 928 does for me already.

Malcolm,

I presume in Calgary the relative humidity is normally pretty low I suspect so high relative humidity is probably not too common- either way when rh is high you can expect plenty of condensation dribbling onto the deck via the drain pipe. If this has rotted or some of it fallen off then maybe it is not going exactly where Herman the German intended.

Nothing to worry about I would suggest.

Regards

Fred

thx Fred.........yes its typically very low RH but yesterday was not so.

It was a little nerve racking to hear the spitting of the water hitting the exhaust then look under the car to see a pool of water.

Malcolm,

It happened to me few times here too.
Hearing the water hitting the exhaust is a bit surprising to say the least!

I recently had the drain unclog itself and dump 1/2 of a gallon of water onto the ground and made me think that the heater core croaked. I took it apart and now it is back together, for the second time .

The water dripping is a bit startling when it drips on the exhaust in traffic and you see puffs of steam. But what you are experiencing is completely normal.

I have a functioning AC and have never seen any condensate drip. Id something plugged up? If so, where would I look? I always see the drips and puddles on other cars.

If you take the air cleaner assembly off. It is on the passenger side about half way down on the firewall. If your drain is clogged water will drip very strategically on your CE panel.

Thanks Bilal. That's is decidedly a bad place to drip.

Sorry, forgot to mention the condensate drain ends in a rubber flap in the firewall that you can easily miss if you are not looking for it.

The drain is actually above the torque tube at the front. It's a rubber tube that comes out of the floor, about 1/2 ID.

That's the drain for the under cowl area, not the A/C evaporator

Still wrong, it's a tube that runs just above the torque tube. If you have rear air, you can see the same thing back in the back of the car too.
