Default Cluster issues...OF COURSE !!! FIXED

[B]Let me preface this by saying everything that doesn`t work today...worked fine yesterday.

Took out the cluster in my 83 to change out the ODO gear. Followed Dwayne`s great thread and everything went fine. I have had the cluster out several times before and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. ODO and speedo went back in and I reinstalled in pod and started it up.

When I moved the car a foot forward, the speedo went to 40mph and the fuel gauge went from half to full. Another foot forward and they went back to where they started. Another foot forward...back to 40mph and full fuel.

Same thing in reverse. I think I`m hearing a click each time it does it. Its like there`s a signal being sent every foot I move the car.

WTF is going on ???

In the continuing BS with the cluster foil, I still can`t get the fuel gauge and Speedo/ODO to work. What circuit is common to these two ? Is it a common power circuit? or a common ground ? Neither one makes any movement when car is running. Both worked fine two days ago before ODO gear fix.

I finally had a chance to dive back into this issue. Turns out when I removed the speedo for repair, the three copper rivets that feed power/signal/ground to the pins came loose. Just enough to make intermittant contact. After continuity checks, all three needed to be tightend. A liitle squeeze with a pair of plyers fixed the problem. Everything seems to work fine now, but you never know for how long. I really hate this cluster!!!
