Euro 1986 S2 Twin Dizzy - SAVE!!!
Started a new thread to document the saving of a badly treated Euro 1986 S2 Twin Dizzy.
Thread that started this resurrection is ------
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-in-texas.html
Background - Texas car appears on a salvage auction. Has been discussed before (see previous thread). I bought it from the auction and collected it from the salvage yard last Wednesday 8/20/14. Car was delivered to my waiting trailer on a large forklift.
Once the car was at my place I checked it over and added a new battery and tried to see if it would run. Car dumped a gallon of fuel on the floor at the pump area.
Today -- About 95% certain that a fire caused the car to be in the salvage yard. Guessing that the car was on an incline nose downwards when the bodged (jury rigged) rigid pipe between the pump & filter failed. Gas poured out and ran forward and caught fire. Lots of white powder in the area of the filter box with some melting of the plastic.
Rigid pipe was so badly corroded that a section was cut out and replaced with a piece of rubber hose. See pictures for gory details.
First task renew pump, filter, rigid S pipe, cradle mounts & pump to tank hose. Already checked out the strainer in the tank - tank is clean and the strainer looks newish.
Car has 811k Kilometers (509k Miles) which I believe to be correct.

1/2 million miles? Are you sure the odo isn't wonky?
Car spent the first 20 years of its life in Germany so high mileage is possible - Autobahn cruiser maybe 8>)
Seat bolster has MAJOR wear and brake pedal worn through the rubber.

Yah was going to say half million was a rather savage understatement based on ODo!
Glad you are committed to the 'save', jealous already of the product. Subscribed...but rating withheld

I can understand why you've been hankering for one of these ... a 16V Euro really does haul. When I got my GTS I was pleasantly surprised that my 82 gives it a run for its money .... partly because the GTS needed a top end refresh, and a few sensors were shot, but also because a bone stock Euro is a strong performer.
Look forward to seeing this one being brought back to life.
What plans do you have for the motor? I assume you'll strip it and see what you have and do a total refresh? It'll be interesting to see what the inside looks like after all those kms. If it's had half decent oil in it I wouldn't be surprised to see it in good condition.

Drifting
Going by the photos , the body looks quite straight , and someone has put my favourite forged Fuchs wheels on her as well (I did the same to my 1986 32V ) , 951 Turbo S anodised Fuchs forged wheels from either a 1988 or 1989 951 Turbo S ( 944 Turbo) , these are a perfect fit , 16" X 7" X 65 offsets front & 16" X 9" rear , these rears were the same as fitted to the 1987 / 1988 928 CS ( no tyre pressure sensor holes )
The fronts on the 1988 928CS & 1989 GT were a bit wider with slightly different offsets 16"X 8" X 60 offset
Interestingly in the Porsche museum ( Germany ) there is a 1985 or 1986 928S ( silver in colour from memory ) & it also has the wheels from a 1988 / 1989 951 , these were never an option for the 1985 / 1986 928S , so I have wondered what the story is with the 928S at the Porsche Museum & why these wheels are on it

Burning Brakes
Roger- in another thread you mentioned that you were going to restore the car to its original color.
When you do a respray, do you remove the engine? The interior? Who does the work?
Do you replace all of the exterior rubber when you do such a job?
Sorry to be nosy, just curious. I'm thinking about a full respray of the S4 someday.

Nice! Looks like it came without spoilers. Do you plan to keep 928S brakes?
