Default Shark population in Nova Scotia rises by 1 - 1985 928S

A couple months ago I posted a thread asking for some insight on a non-running 1980 Euro that was for sale locally (Nova Scotia) - and I received lots of insight and great advise from the guys here.

One key piece of advice that stuck in my mind was from Randy V ... "start looking for something you can drive and be proud to own the moment you pay your money".

So I started looking, and searched across Canada and down into the eastern USA and ended up with this beauty ... 1985, 5 speed 171,000 km, Canadian car with all original paint / rims (not on car), excellent interior, all service records from day 1, a few spare parts and lots of 928 reference material including the shop manuals on CD.

The car was in St John's NL, so after having a friend look at it for me I sent the funds to the owner and we arranged to ship her to Halifax NS via ocean freighter.

My wife and I took her out for the first drive early this morning and it drives smooth, its tight and oh, so fun (but that's old news to an experienced 928 owner!).

The car was sprayed with plasti-dip (hence the matt black) by the PO, and I am now about 75% of the way through peeling it off. Neat product, just not my style.

So, thanks for all the help last time around. I am looking forward to being a contributing member as my experience grows with this beauty.

Here are a few pictures of our first 24 hours together (hope they load up properly).

Greg

Seeing here for the 1st time - Port of Halifax

About half done peeling the plasti-dip off

Wow, she looks to be holding up well. Maybe the P/O with the plastidip penchant was a tweener- in between the doting owner and the dedicated enthusiast. TEmps are running in range? Looking at aftermarket fan. Interior quarters and dash look good, I see the luggage cover back there. Nice.

Looking forward to more pics- point lookout maybe? Wolfeville? Mabou?

SMT - I believe the PO is more of a Pcar enthusiast than doting owner (he has 2 other Porsches now and has been a Porsche owner continuously for the past 20 years). The plasti-dip was actually great for shipping - if there was any contact with the surface you would have been able to see it very easily.

You are correct on the aftermarket fan - that is the only modification to the car (I forgot about that in my initial post); running temps were in range yesterday (lower end of the range).

Will post some pics from scenic spots around NS for sure - few short day trips on the agenda right now.

Very nice.

I was wondering why the burgundy interior with a black exterior, until I saw the pics with the plastidip removed

Was the spoiler coated too? I'm curious how plastidip adheres to the rubber.

Congratualtions Greg.

Martin is that an unusual color combo?

Great looking car Greg! Welcome to Rennlist.

I love the original exterior color. One of my favorite 928 colors. The burgundy leather seats can be re-dyed pretty easy with Color Plus system. https://colorplus.com/

Have fun with it!

Well done, Greg - your patience in holding out for the right one has been rewarded!

What is the name of that paint colour?

Thanks guys!

Martin - Neither the front nor the rear spoiler were coated in plasti-dip. Part of me is thankful for that, although it did seem to adhere and peel off ok on the plastic around the mirrors. I just think the more porous surface of the rear spoiler could make it a tough chore to remove the dip at a later date. Front spoiler would seem to be ok for the dip and subsequent removal.

Hey, SMT ... sorry, but cannot get to the Wharf Rats this weekend (although if the bonus points were high enough anything is possible!).

Randy V ... thanks; the paint colour is Garnet Red Metallic - the poor lighting in my garage makes the colour look a bit off.

At this point I have peeled the plasti-dip off all the panels except for the rocker panels and the surface below the headlights (when they are in the upright position). I feel like its going to be a couple hours laying on the floor tomorrow to get the rockers done. The dip is just too thin there to peel off like it did on the other panels. The surface below the headlights seems to be in the same boat ... a thin coat that will not peel properly (and in a tight area).

Will post some more pics tomorrow once I get the rest of the dip off and the car into natural light.

Here are a few pictures with 99% of the plasti-dip removed. There is still some dip in the nooks and crannies that will get picked at over the next few weeks / months - but for now we are going to enjoy the nice weather and see Nova Scotia through the windshield of a 928!

These pictures were taken after a nice familiarization drive today of +/- 100km (60 miles); at one point was running up the highway with very nice grey metallic 944 turbo. I am starting to get a taste for just how fun this car will be!
