Todd took the twin turbo to the drag strip.... faster trap speed than a Veyron
Just to refresh, this car:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...deo-added.html
This wasn't the first trip to the 1/4 miles this year, just the first one we remembered to bring along recording equipment.
He's still working on dialing in the launch, the ET should be much lower.
He's taking it easy off the line for now, as he gets a feel for the car and see's what the drive-train can all handle.
Todd has a few tricks up his sleeve to lower the 60' time and get off the line quicker.
Little comparison:

Geezus that's quick. He sure is taking his time leaving the line though.

That looks like soooo much fun. That trap speed is crazy. Really takes off about midway. Once he gets the takeoff figured out what are the time expectations? Sub 10 quarters will be easy then. Think you can get to sub 9sec?
That front end was floating up quite a bit. I might be wetting my pants driving that thing. Any chance of it getting a splitter? Can't imagine the adrenaline rush. The other guys must be embarrassed watching their american muscle leave you behind only to see you fly by like a bat out of hell midway thru. Made me grin just watching it. Nice job and way to represent!!! Love the stock look and the quiet sleeper sound compared to the others loud growl at idle.

Yes, suspension setup is the next step.
Unlike Camaro's / Mustangs etc... there isn't really a catalog to open up and order drag racing parts for a 928
Todd is no stranger to going this fast down the 1/4, in the past it was on a motorcycle (that he built from scratch with a Type IV engine). It's hooking up so good right now he doesn't want to make any huge changes, so it's going to be step by step dialing it in.
He doesn't have the full shot of nitrous open off the line and the boost is turned way down downstairs at the moment.
Remember, with autronic he not only has eight individual ignition and fuel maps, each one of those maps has an overlayed boost map based on what gear he's in, speed of the car etc..... So the map that is running at the line is very, very conservative compared to the one upstairs (which is also very conservative, that's just how Luke and Todd tune).
It's hard to explain the level of tuning that has gone into this car. I've only paged through a few of his maps and it's staggering to say the least.
Oh yea, I forgot to mention this car is significantly heavier than a stock 928, by 400lbs or so. Not from the turbo system itself (which is actually lighter than the stock exhaust) but form the heaviest battery he could find that fit in the stock location and over 200lbs of ballast he has bolted to the rear bumper support.
The weight balance of this 928 is probably close to an early 930, which was his goal and most likely why it hooks up so good without any wheel spin. We've talked about a way to modify his ballast so it can be removed in increments at the track between runs, along with suspension changes.
As for being a sleeper, needless to say this car has become very popular at the local drag strip. He pulls in, whisper quiet, idles like your average family sedan then goes 150 down the track.
Meanwhile you have every other car shaking the ground, doesn't want to idle, louder than a Metallica concert....... Then people come over, see a full stock interior, stereo etc.... and they are blown away.
The only "catch" is he is now traveling too fast for a "stock" car. Next up will be a roll-bar, harness etc......

You actually want that to happen in a drag racing setup to a point. It's transferring the weight where it needs to be vs not doing it as effectively. Most "drag" springs on mustangs or the like are taller to accomplish this.

Did he run that Camaro following on the return road at the end of the vid?
Note the little step to the left at 1:11, must be hitting third, very cool, envious...
Is front sway bar disconnected for additional weight transfer, or is that not a factor/not worth the effort?
200lbs of ballast...wow....if it's all about straight line, a little more crazy juice and it'll be time to tub and/or move the transaxle forward. Kindof contrary to the stockish presentation. Or fabricate some kind of traction/leverage bar...

It's also a stock PDK differential. I say stock as in the differential is not modified, but how it's controlled is 100% custom setup he came up with that appears to be working rather well.
His Autronic ECU does have launch control, but he's not using it yet.

As Todd turns up the volume on his stock stereo, the last thing the muscle cars hear is Axl Rose screaming:
"You know where you are?
You're at the drag strip baby;
You're gonna die!"
Rich.
