Default MH17

Last Thursday, after work, I was lying under my car fixing the newly painted fuel lines on my car. My car is in an unused building at the factory, where I have all the space i need to take it apart, fix things and putting it back together again. I have an old radio to listen to the news and heard an item about a plane from Malaysia airlines that had been found. I thought it was the lost plane MH370, but soon I realised it was another plane that had crashed, in Ukraine this time. All people died (approx 280). At first, the news was that approx 20 of them were dutch. The news quickly got worse. The list of dutch people that died during that flight quickly rose to close to 200. The plane appeared to have been shot out of the sky by terrorists. A plane with people going on vacation. Whole families on their way to their holiday destination. Fathers, mothers, children, elderly people taking their grandchiltren to a beautiful country for vacation. I can imagine that, I took that connection to Kuala Lumpur with final destination Jakarta from Amsterdam on a number of occasions for my job.
Now I just returned from my temporarily 928 garage, watching the TV report on the transport of the first bodies that were flown in from Ukraine. A colonne of 40 hearses travelled from the south of the Netherlands (airport Eindhoven) to Hilversum (right in the middle of the Netherlands). Thousands of people gathered alongside the highway and on fly-overs see the mile long black ribbon of 40 hearses and to pay respect to the victims. People throwing flowers on the hearses. There must have been at least 100.000 people showing their respect. The whole country is mourning. At 4 pm everything stopped to remember the victims. Words are not enough to describe the pain of the peolple who lost their loved ones. And the way the people carry this burden and show their respect makes you proud to be dutch. Absolutely breathtaking.
I heard you can watch the report on CNN. It is most impressive.

And while this was going on I encountered a new problem in my '78 928. I don't know how serious this is. I noticed at the front jacking points that the piece of tube that is inside the body going up from the jacking points is rusty. The metal is at places very thin with a small hole on one side. How bad is this? Is this a safety issue? I cannot see where these stubes enter the body on the inside. I thought it must be behind the footrest on the left side, or the electic board on the right side. I don't know how to remove the footrest and I have removed the electric board on the right side but couldn't find the stub. DOes anyone know how to reach the jacking points on the inside of the car?

We all send our heart felt condolences for the tragic loss of Dutch life. We Canadians were relatively unscathed (One Canadian death) in the loss of life in this senseless act of utter stupidity

Theo has been sending me links to Dutch news videos and picture slideshows. One of the videos was an impressive speech given by the Dutch Minister of Foreign affairs given at the UN. Today's procession of hearses through the countryside was very impressive. I hadn't seen such a unified demonstration of grieving and patriotism since 9/11. One couple lost all three of their children. I can't imagine.

I've always been impressed by how international the 928 forum is. It's one of the things I like best about it. Being a part of this forum introduced me to Theo (now a very good friend) and his passion for 928s - and knowing Theo has brought this tragedy a lot closer to home. The Netherlands is a country of only about 16 million people. I can sense from communicating with Theo that all Dutch are hurting, and very angry.

It's horrible to hear about these tragic recent events. From what I learned the target plane was a military one and the rocket saw the larger heat signature of the passenger plane. An act of utter stupidity

It's very sad and my condolences lay with those who lost friends and family.
