Default Powder coating brake calipers

I will have my 88 S4 and 91 GT's front and rear brake clippers powder coated shortly. They are prepared and ready to go powder coater.

I have two questions and appreciate your help;

1- Do we need to bake these calipers as well or skip baking. İf they need to be baked than how long do they need to be baked at around 400 fahrenheit.

2- 91 GT and 88 S4 calipers have different dust shields around their pistons. Everything in 91GT's caliper is removed however the rubber dust shield in 88 S4's caliper is not removed and they are still on the caliper. Can we bake and powder coat these calipers with the rubber piston dust shield still in. My assumption is that rubber should be able to tolerate high temperatures during its normal operation and could endure the baking and powder coating process.

Thanks for all your help.

I would appreciate any ''Do's and Dont's '' on powder coating brake calipers based on your past experience.

Nope you will need to remove the rubber and piston, clean and mask. You also need to worry about fluid leaking out during the baking as there will be fluid in the chamber if the piston is still in.

Thanks,
The mechanic who removed the pistons told me that the rubber will be destroyed if romoved. I was not able to find new ones. Were you able to find just the rubber dust shields for 87/88 S4 calipers?

I don't think rebuild kits are available any longer for the early calipers.

I bought kits from those guys about 3 years ago. Great service and product.

Probably still available.
