Just out of curiosity, may i ask what preceded the salvage title?
It was an engine fire, destroyed the hood, front fenders and the front bumper cap. At the time is was brand new and the insurance company wrote it off. The only interior damage was it melted the sunroof drain hose, melted not burned.

Jim has not tried really hard to sell the car. However the car is now with Randy Kara who specializes in selling interesting cars.

Roger has it correctly. I really toyed with the idea of keeping it, but the 991 that replaced it is such a fantastic car I always found myself going to the 991. The few times I did drive it I really enjoyed it but two sports cars and a truck, and being single again, made absolutely no sense. It's a great car and rare as a 5-speed. It's a daily driver and being a garage queen is just not what it deserves.

Well now that it isn't in your hands, I'll say that the gauge pod in the center console is pretty horrific. I mean, it's styling doesn't match anything else in the car and is quite vulgar. I read somewhere that the car carried a salvage title and thought it was from the car trying to kill itself from being destroyed with that panel. Best of luck with the 991 and I hope they came with enough gauges for your taste.

I did say something constructive. We are in a community that thrives on knowledge and experience of others to improve ourselves and the community; If I don't say it, who will?

If that work is considered second to none, I guffaw at the attention to detail (read lack thereof) on something as simple as a gauge panel. While perhaps it may be the lighting, and we all know lighting plays a big role in how things are perceived, it looks like an out-of-place melted piece of plastic. I'm basing all of my criticism on the one or two pics I've seen of the gauge panel and nothing else. The rest of the car looks okay (from what I've seen).

Knowing that space in that area is an issue and that 928 can have various gremlins without the help of OBD-II to troubleshoot, maybe the bulking gauges were more the result of form-follows-function than aesthetic considerations!

I find the installed CD Player more objectionable, but I know that there are only few CD Players/Radio (Nakamichi, still available?) that fit well the 928 stylistically.

But both are easy enough to replace with something else, and therefore, shouldn’t distract from the gorgeous car.

Jim,

If I could ask you. Which, if not all you additional gauges (Arm1 air-fuel-ratio gauge, Ampere meter, oil temperature, vacuum gauge, correct?) could/would you recommend for other 928’s? What were your consideration choosing these gauges?

Is the gauge under the hood a fuel pressure gauge?

Thanks.

Wow .... all you had to say was that the gauge pod wasn't to your liking, which is an opinion you're entitled to, and entitled to express.

All the rest is just insult for the sake of it ... adds nothing, and is distinctly lacking in class.

Care to post a few pics of your car so we can similarly critique it?

I only wish to reconfirm 'my opinion' about Jim's car. It is one of the finest examples with significant modification that I've ever seen or been around. Salvage title should not be a hindrance to ownership on this car. It probably reduces resale value, but it CERTAINLY does nothing to diminish driving enjoyment!!
