Fuse Panel Question
I spent some time looking at my car today and was doing some investigating as to why my instrument panel isn't working, and found at least one problem.
The area surrounding fuse 5 and 6 (mainly fuse 5) is fairly caramelized. The best solution is going to be replacing the fuse panel with a good used one, but I wanted to check in before I go installing the replacement. I intend to check the wires and connections themselves for any burning or damage. Past that should I be examining anything else for electrical faults?
In looking at the fuse and relay diagram, I see that circuit/fuse #5 is shared with the cigarette lighter, and in a perfect world I would deduce that this is likely due to someone overloading that circuit (likely with the cig lighter...could have been faulty cig lighter, 12v accessory, etc). There was a mobile phone installed at one point in the car and this could have been what did it.
Anyways, just wanted to check in before I replace the panel to see if there's anything else I should check. Good news is that all relays are correct and all fuse wattages are correct and nothing else is blown. This is a relatively minor problem that doesn't concern me too much. I'd rather replace the fuse box than the printed circuit board in the dash, so to that extent I guess today is a good day!
Oh, also, I have the 928 610 105 04 fuse panel.

Wow, looks pretty bad. Not knowing anything about it, I wonder if you can take the opportunity to upgrade to the new fuse style. Since you are planning to replace the entire CE panel that might be a good thing. Others here might help to say if that can be done.

Yeah it looks pretty nasty but the damage seems to be contained to the panel so I don't really mind all that much.
As far as I know it is not possible to upgrade to a different circuit panel.

There is at least $150 of PITA sprinkled onto your current CE panel.

Make sure its an exact matching 928 part number - ideally same year. Not all CE panels are the same - in fact many differences YTY.
