Okay Texas crew. . . lets meet at Roger's place at 7:00 am on Wednesday for a 7:30 departure. Bring your FRS radio, passport and radar detector. I understand Mike is bringing some tools. I would like to have dinner in Albuquerque, NM with a overnight stop in or near Farmington NM. Would like to do 99% of the drive in daylight if possible. I have printed maps for everyone. The fun starts Wed. morning.

Good point. For folks driving, the Canadian limits on essential fluids, per person, are:
Wine: 1.5L (e.g. 2 bottles per person)
OR Beer: 8.5L (e.g. 24 12-oz cans)
OR Liquor: 1.14L (40 oz)

Folks.......the hotel has a couple of pubs and if required theres a liquor store just down the hwy (gas station) but would recommend stopping at a liquor store before the final hwy West of Calgary.........for those coming into the Calgary area from the South you can avoid the city by heading West then North.........I'll post a map.

In Alberta you have to buy beer/wine/liquor from an independent store not a grocery store but almost all large food stores have a refreshment outlet next door........theres many .

I met with the hotel event manager today who asked if we wanted a meal Fri evening at one of the several restaurant choices (Fireweed being recommended) we could as a group and get some savings but it would require commit. We don't have to all eat at the same time given some are travelling from very far. If this is of preference please PM otherwise our meeting place at Woodys pub serve food also.

Many liquor stores in Alberta but much much more expensive than most of you are used to paying for. Bring your limit of your favourite beverage across the border. You can purchase duty free at most crossings as well!

Bypassing Calgary through black Diamond/Turner Valley would be what I would recommend as there is a great stretch of scenery and twisty roads. Stop in Bragg Creek for fuel before the last short drive to Kananaskis!

You guys and girls will be treated to an incredibly scenic part of North America. This is where I was born and raised and might be a little bias but the drive into the mountains always amazes me. For 25 years, I have lived and worked between Calgary and Canmore. I can't wait to hear your comments from your trip. Watch out for wildlife, especially in the evenings and mornings open your sunroof and take plenty of pictures!
I live 35 minutes away and have a garage full of most tools necessary to make repairs if someone is in need. Enjoy!

Calgary Ole - why are you not coming along? You can visit without committing to all the festivities I am sure.

come on out Ole.....bring the family in the SUV

The route I was thinking exactly what Ole suggests.........head West to Black Diamond, Turner Valley, Brag Creek toward the main hwy #1 where you go West toward Canmore/Banff and follow the signs to Kananaskis hwy 40 South.

If you end up right in the Rockies you went a little to far

I was hoping to 'Donate' my car to someone over 25 for the weekend. It is a well sorted car with less than 2 miles on it the past two years. It is a 'Euro' that is my pride and joy. I have a speedo issue in the pod that I'm trying to fix! Not perfect but completely stock and a great car. If I can get it working in the next day or two, I will gladly loan it to the group for guests not able to bring there 928 to this amazing part of the world.

I will be out to visit in the evenings. I can bring the pickup with a jack and tools to help out if needed.
I will drive out in my car otherwise!

I'm all set. We will do the last of the packing tonight and I will be sure to bring the survival gear including flares.... Also, to remember the event I will pack a video camera and still camera for the drive/event.

We will see the DFW crew at Roger's casa tomorrow at 7.

Getting ready for Canada. What is everybody doing for phone service? I have AT&T and would like to know what is the most economical (cheap) way.
Thanks

Good point. You can turn on International service for phone and data (Verizon and AT&T) for Canada which will reduce substantially your minute rates and data usage. If you call them before your flight they can turn it on right then. Just have them auto turn off when you get back to not incur any additional charges for having the service "turned on".

We travel often to the US. We call our service and buy a $10 international rider which allows texting and long distance. Roaming can be super expensive if you don't pre arrange!
