Matt - yo gotta see the 18" Phone dials in person - just checked them out this past weekend at Jim's place - they are truly a work of art and belong on an "updated" OB to really complete the look....trying to convince my wife I need a nice birthday present this year...

Can't wait to see your car!

Hi Matt your car looks great,
take your time with the doors , consider adding new white window guides 2 for each window,
these will make the windows much quieter.
Also these make sure to put in a vapor barrier with drip panels,
it will quiet the interior and make the doors sound like a vault when you close them.
I like to use a shower curtain and the weldwood adhesive

Thanks guys. Stan, I remember the talk about the drip panel, I need to find those posts. I bought some sound barrier I plan on using on the doors, have some lower window trims on order from roger I should see this week. I just need some time to get out there and rip out the motors and regulators to do some cleaning and greasing.
My white guides seem nice and right on the shafts but I'll look further. Let me know if you still need any little misc parts at all, I owe you..

Default ff dynamics fan group buy?

Was taking a look at their site, seems most people really like their setup. i did an air pump delete on my 78, capped heads, etc, but i HATE hearing the short belt after eliminating the air pump, it whirrs terrible.

So, on their site, they mention being willing to give nice discounts on group buys, Just wondered if there was any interest. I'd be very hesitant doing this with an unknown produce but these seem like nice kits.

Just thought i'd throw it out there and see what everyone thinks..

Default 78 Euro #622 progress

Seeing lots of people updating progress and normally only stalk since i'm ignorant compared to most here, but contribute where i can. So things recently done on my car:
Installed VW Passat interior lights with LED lamps

removed motor driven fan and replaced with FF Dynamics electric fan

Removed stock exhaust from manifolds back, replaced with hi-flow Magnaflow cat (to keep wife happy and remove smell), and Borla cat-back system-sounds GREAT

Replaced crappy cheap aftermarket pass window switch that lasted a year with a new OEM unit

Finished up my passenger door and it it almost perfect OTHER than the lock stud i snapped off DAMN.. Gotta try to drill it out with a microscopic bit and sink a bolt into it (or is there a better way?)

Installed Momo steering wheel

Bought the higher Chinese center compartment off Ebay (pretty decent)

Other minor interior work here/there

Replaced rear hatch seal that was brittle beyond belief, and came out in over 20 pieces.. did not remove hatch, just worked very slowly. came out great

My paint job IS STILL NOT DONE.. and i'm trying desperately to get it back to the guy for final punchlist/polish/clean-up. the biggest issue is my driver door still doesn't have a window in it, as i want him to align the door better so it closes perfectly like before and not hang up like it is now. So because of this i can't close the window or lock the door, which limits where i can go. I also have a weird issue where the lock turns fine, but doesn't operate the lock/unlock arm on the back of the cylinder which also worked perfect before. So i take out the cylinder which i've never done, and when i removed the key- BOOM- the tumblers all fell out on the garage floor and i screamed like a little girl.. Gotta figure out how to put them all back in so it operates again.
Also need to get into the front brakes/rotors/wheel bearings. Pad lining light is on, rotors and pads look original (car has 24k miles), and i have some really nice pads/rotors from my 1981 parts car left over with under 500 miles on them. I see some threads on wheel bearings so that is my mission tonight. More edumacation for me.

I need to again thank everyone on here for contributing so much of their knowledge/experience.

Default 78 Euro progress

Hope everyone is having a great summer. After a month of getting out to the garage an hour a week, five stitches to the forehead trying to remove my untouched 38 yr old calipers, and drilling out every bolt, I just finished front pads, rotors, new wheel bearings, rebuild of my calipers. Things now feel great and nice and tight. I need to find all the electrical docs I have saved but until then- my pad lining sensors more or less crumbled when I removed my pads. The wires also fell out of one of them. Are there replacements for these or should I just delete them entirely? Just seems like another thing to have issues and warning lights with. I figure if I'm not smart enough to now when my brakes are going I shouldn't be driving.

Been off RL for awhile, STILL not done with body/paint final details, but inching along. Got all windows installed and still need to find an inner driver door cylinder with a functioning unlock "tab". Also looking for a switch plate for my replacement driver seat, and upper window seals. I still have some parts left to trade/barter from my 81 parts car if anyone has any of these parts. I have another thread for the 81 i'll try to update this week.

Haven't been on RL much this summer but finally got out in #622 for more than a 1/2 hour ride. Took it on my first 100 mile trip. Car ran like a clock and since I got new tires last month I thought I'd stretch er legs a little. Boy it felt good. Was very happy until I realized no brake lights.. Checked lamps and fuse, all good. I'll look into replacing switches under the master cylinder. I actually thought of doing these while I did the terrible blue hose/ slave cylinder job a couple years back but decided not to (dummy). Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Car looks great, and what a beautiful backdrop.

Glad you're finally able to feel the ground beneath its feet moving again.

Brian.
