Thanks guys!
I sent the FD to a guy in NC who sells on ebay under the name "rebuiltsystems". It's on its way back to me now. He even sent some before and after pics which I will post here tonight. I have my fingers crossed.

On another note, I have the remaining fuel components out and being cleaned.
My throttle body was absolutely a mess. Tons of thick carbon. Luckily I have a nice solvent sink so everything is getting surgically cleaned. Someone had the air meter (flapper) out at some point as it had silicone on the paper gasket. One thing I like about this car is the lack of shortcut fixes and hack jobs. Most parts seem to be porsche replacements. Not a cut wire or rig job found yet.

Ron looks like the one half was bead blasted (sand)
and other half was cleaned up on a fine wire wheel.
Try it yourself, nothing to lose.

Remember the hand held gravity fed sand blasters we talked about.
They work and they are cheap.

Steam cleaned and acid washed the spider plenum and runners. I mocked it up (incorrectly) just for pics. Has a nice clean, natural finish. Anyone know if the emblem was painted at all originally?

Nice Spider!

Motor crest was painted black on the inset. Let me know if you need a ref pic.

Thanks! I used some satin black brake caliper paint and a small artist brush. For some of the areas, I simply painted the whole section of emblem and wiper the paint of the high areas. I understand these are still available but I enjoy detail work such as this plus I need to save money wherever I can. Lord knows this car is going to take a lot of money!

Nice, guy....

I think I am going to redo my own FD.....had a pet emergency, spent $3000 I did not have to save our little chihuahua. Been a tough week here at the house....did no 928 work....

Guy, you should grind the ridges all smooth of that spider...I'll post you a pic of the one I got from Carl later tonight.

Well, that certainly sounds like a good cause (saving a pet). I believe I was capable of rebuilding the FD but decided to put my energies elsewhere given the cost. I have done a lot of carbs in my day and understand the importance of cleanliness and truing surfaces. If I were you, I would try it. What do you have to lose?

I have thought of taking the runners and plenum further cosmetically but I am very **** about originality. I think I could be tempted into smoothing the castings a bit and painting them aluminum for a more consistent appearance.

I am cleaning and repairing the gas tank strap this weekend. Need to do some minor metal fab work.
