Steering shaft flex coupling repair ideas
What is the best way to repair the flex coupling in the middle of the intermediate steering shaft? I noticed today while looking at some other stuff that mine appears to have a crack developing in the flex element. What is the best fix?
Thanks

Mike, to fix this,
you need a new coupler,
this will require the rack to be dropped down,
so you will also need 4 new sealing washers for the banjos

Roger could prolly get everything you need ,
Chris, AKA Landseer has replaced his as well he has more info.
Mike I found more info and pictures,
NOTE you may not be able to get new parts but rather used parts

Thanks for the lead Hilton. I'll ping Roger and see if he can source the correct part.
You guys rock. Without this board and the wealth of knowledge freely shared our cars would quickly be seen only in museums or collections instead of on the road where they belong.

45 years ago I replaced one of those discs with a disc cut from the tread of a used-up Michelin X and some high-grade nuts and bolts - at the time I was both poor and ignorant and it was harder to find parts and info. Drew a little blood with the steel belt in the disc (Damn me as a PO), but subsequent inspections over a couple of years showed it holding up well. Of course, that 356 wouldn't go 150mph.
BTW, for possible FLAPS shopping, the steering coupler part is also called a "rag joint."

First google result for vw parts says:
http://www.jbugs.com/product/16-5150.html
http://www.jbugs.com/product/211415417.html
http://www.jbugs.com/product/111415417.html
Though these are for ancient VW's, how hard could it be?

Yes we stock the part. IIRC you need to add a couple of spacers to emulate the original.
