Default headlights flicker. Switch ?

Evening all,
84 euro, A/T.

My headlight flicker, some times not coming on at all. The bright lights come on or flicker when using the turn signals. and I have to throw the lever forward then back again to get the headlight to turn off. It can grab a hold of the turn signal lever, and by slightly moving it get the low beams and high beams to flicker. I can really tell this switch is going. I take it there is no way of fixing it, and better to just replace it correct ? Is there a write up somewhere on changing this switch ?

thanks guys
oh I also want to point out that if I pull the stalk back it does not fire up the bright lights.

Restoration is possible though a little challenging in reassembly...

Thank you for the info.

Looking through my parts catalouge it only shows the part number for the switch with the cruise control. I dont have cruise.

Does anyone know what the part number is for the turn signal switch, just 2 arms. No cruise control, for a 84 euro A/T. ?

And if any of you guys from the big 3 read this, anyone got one, used if possible because i am cheap !!!

If you are cheap - fix the one you have ~$0. Its not rocket science just fiddly and time consuming

Thanks for the response. I am contemplating fixing the one i have like you say. although i am assuming from what i have read there are many springs and such, plus there are many things flickering or wrong on mine, and i dont belive it will be just a contact issue needing cleaned. Any thought ?

1. When pulling back on the lever only one in ten times it will quickly flicker.
2. when turning on the left trun signal the brights flash.
3. with just low beams on it will turn on the high beams by there self, or with a slight touch, and you have to push forward and cycle to get them to turn off.
4. When turning on the low beam lights, sometimes they come up, but dont even come on, and you have to wiggle the arm to get them to come on.
5. The low beams will go off by themselves, and you have to wiggle the arm to get them to illuminate. During this wiggling, the high beams will also flicker.

It would be nice if there were any pictoral write ups of this operation.

Well there are pictures in the other thread that give you some idea what you are in for.

Reassembly is difficult only because you have to locate the two main stalks, the cancelling tab and the various springs - while you reassemble... cleaning the contacts is very easy once apart. Since your HB flash doesn't work you may have some kind of alignment or interference issue to deal with also there

I'd suggest you drill out the rivets with the unit taped together - then disassemble carefully noting the configuration of the flasher side - the wiper side is very easy to replace - so ignore that. If you go carefully you should see how its set up - if you just pull it apart quickly it will basically end up all over the place.

The Hi/Lo beam flasher config/operation is the hardest to understand - but all of the component parts of that switch are completely visible.

I think restoration is very doable - and you have nothing to lose - if it isn't doable you just buy a replacement a little later...
