I replaced my window switches yesterday then realized that i could use one of the old ones for the sunroof and low and behold, it works! Now when i hit the switch the motor hums and i can see the transmission go in either direction, however the sunroof does not open or closes. I see a black, rubber barrel spin when i hit the button. the transmission (where you manually open/close) just moves a few mm then stops. Everything else still hums and works.

If the black thing ( clutch ) keeps spinning but trans is not the clutch could be worn out due to all the grease in the tracks and cable rails turning into a varnish jamming things up . I just pulled the whole assembly apart cleaned it all and lubed it last month. It works great now. There are a few write ups on it somewhere it's not hard to do if your handy

that rubber coupler could be dead. if the roof was "stuck" the motor should stop. i would take it all apart and clean her real good
