Default Finding all the leaks, one at a time.

As I go through the newly acquired '80 top to bottom, front to back, I am trying to cure it's major case of engine incontinence. I found most of the leaks so far, the usual suspects.

But what has me kind of baffled is how in the world oil seems to spray up to the manifold like this! The top of the manifold is bone dry. It's just on the underside and seems to have been doing this for quite some time before I got this car, looking at the built up burned oil crap in that one spot on the manifold.

No wonder that car starts giving oil-smoke-signals shortly after starting. Unfortunately no more starting it to see what's happening now, since its too far apart for that now, but maybe someone has an idea where it could come from? I really can't wait to de-grease and clean this entire engine. It will make me feel so much better.

Any pointers are greatly appreciated!

Pressure feed to head/cam is leaking at head gasket.

Pull the motor, and replace both gaskets and reseal

Thanks for the response!

Odd how it sprays upwards against the manifold like that...would have thought that would be more of a sideways stream. Wasn't planning on an engine pull to get this one on the road, but if I end up having to do that I may just drop everything right now and not put any more effort into this engine and instead use the '81 engine that has been sitting on my engine stand just waiting to be dropped into something...

Is it a pretty certain guess without many other possibilities or any other fixes?

That isn't a guess. I know that is what's causing it by what I can see in the picture posted.

Then out it comes and in goes the other engine. I always knew there was a reason why I never sold it :P On a good note, it's pretty much ready to drop in, new gaskets, belts, seals, gears, etc.

Is that a fairly common thing to happen on these engines?
