Following along, great news that it's running well enough to trust for a 40 mile trip.

Re paint or wrap,

I never liked the wrap thing, i'm not sure why but to me it just feels like a cheapo cover up (no offense meant to those with wraps)

I would paint the car you have.. so much time invested why take a short cut by wrapping.

928s are easy to take apart and paint. If done this way, the painter could paint it better (apart) and cheaper knowing you would be putting the fenders and bumper covers etc back on for them. (You'd do a better job too)

Find a car guy with a local painter he would recommend in your area. It's who you know and this will

really bring the restoration home if done well.

Thanks Matt and Brian. I have been piddling with this one for two years, all the while accumulating various performance parts and 928 assets to make her just the way I want her.

Patience should pay off soon.

Default First road trip

Well I had a chance to take the first road trip in the 79 yesterday. 230 mile round trip to a nice gathering of 928's in the Atlanta area. I was halfway to Atlanta before I really started to feel comfortable. By the time I got there my tow service was the furthest thing from my mind. Great gathering that was hosted by RichVM at Garage 928. Missed a few folks but got to meet a whole new batch of owners.

This more than doubled the miles I have driven the car since purchased 3-4 years ago.

Body work starts on 4/20.

Awesome buddy! I heard a rumor (ok, I'm starting it...) that the bonus room above my garage is almost done, and that Roger was shipping out some axle parts this week for one lucky little girl in ICU....so watch for some #30 updates.....

I missed the info on the Atlanta thing...I might have tried to make that....

Oh well

Congrats buddy!

I will be glad to see you again. Let me know if you need me to bring anything for #30. I still have lots of odds and ends collecting dust.

We get together in Atlanta once every warm month. 8-10 cars Good times

Dropped her off last night for body work and paint prep. The rear qtr windows will have to come out for the body work, but the bumpers will stay on the car until final paint which will be later in the summer. 8 pea sized holes to be welded up and three quarter sized hole to be welded. Lot of smoothing and finishing and then a black prime coat.

Pics just in from the engine rebuild. For those just jumping in I am having a m28/11 Euro S engine rebuilt by StrayCat for use in MY 79 driver.

I spoke with the body man yesterday and begged him to take a few pics along the way to document his work.

More engine pics

We had a hold up at the body shop. Lots of "in progress" pics when I pick it up this week. Turns out the painter could not find a black primer so he is using gray primer and will shoot it in black before pick up. The bumper will still need to come off for final paint and clear.

Great progress Brian. Sorry I missed the get-together at Rich's shop (5 min from my house) as I was in N.C. but I hope to be at the next one as soon as he announces the date.

Sorry we missed you Dave.

All the kudo's belong to Bill Graff (straycat) for the engine work. The engine was on a stand in my garage for over a year.

Ron,
Actually we were in Rock Hill, SC. For the Quidditch World Cup. Brian is a Snitch, and we watched many matches. 1200 participants and 90 schools participated. We then went to Maggie Valley, then back home.
We are selling our house on the ATL and downsizing so I can run the 928 on the Blue Ridge Parkway every day!
