Mr JDS, for sure we have a few questions... But I need to gather my thoughts properly, first. For the moment I am chuffed that we are knocking on the door of 500 crank hp with a standard displacement engine...

Some randon observations:

1) Short trumpets - they made 5bhp extra, but they lost 70Nm of torque. Looks like the bods at BMW knew what they were doing when they installed the long trumpets in the M5

2) Even with a dry sump, there is a lot of oil in the heads... Not as bad as on a standard engine, but still bad...

3) **** me, it is loud...

very nice numbers......interesting comparo of the short vs long intake runners......5 hp up top is not worth 51ftlbs loss everywhere else......

Do you know the ID of the M5 ITB's?

How do you filter the intake air?

Nice work, I'm liking all the ingenious reworking of fuel rails, throttle cable wheel, fuel damper, etc. Looks great!

Even with a dry sump, there is a lot of oil in the heads... Not as bad as on a standard engine, but still bad...
Interesting observation, how are you able to 'see' this? Looks like the right hand side valve cover breather holes are plugged, and the left has a pair of elbows. Didja get oil pushed up into whatever airbox you're using?

Alex,

Those are very impressive numbers especially on the torque side of things!

This will be a very very fun car to drive!

To any of you out there that are interested in increasing power, I still have a number of sets of cams available

Those dyno numbers look great. I am trying to figure out the most cost effective way for hp for these cars. What did this massage end up costing you ? I understand if you choose not to divulge. 77tony

a custom built 928 engine like this IS NOT cheap.... I'd guess $20k isn't too far off the mark

I predict you'll be surprised by the number, my bet is that Alex did this without wasting a dime and the number will show a very good hp/GBP for a normally aspirated motor.

Nah, way cheaper than that...

All prices in GBP as this is where I live...

Exchange crank from Porsche to include genuine Porsche main crank bearings and 0.25 undersized genuine Porsche conrod bearings + 2 x 2R rods = £2000 (could not be avoided as the original GTS crank was shot)

JE Pistons = £1200

M5 throttle bodies with trumpets = £500

ITB adaptor plates and miscellaneous work on fuel rails, hoses, throttle cable wheel, etc = £400

Colin's cams = £1000

Head work to include 16 new valve seats, 32 new valve guides and 32 new valve stem seals, and mild porting = £400

Exhaust = £500

Alpha-N = £ good deal from JDS

Injectors = £120 from Roger

968 valves = £150 from Pelican

Total = £less than $20k...

Still cheaper than a stroker and damn good results I would say for someone who knows nothing...
