?????? so are the 32V gears the same as the round tooth 16v gears?.....

Granted my racer is a 79, but it has round tooth "HD" gears.....

The HD "round tooth" design was used from 83 onwards.
So 77 to 82 were square tooth.
The 16v HD were different to the 32v gears.

Same HTD (high torque drive) tooth profile, but the 16V gears are non-adjustable.

To use the 32V gears on a 16V, you have to machine a 32V hub (to a height of 9.0mm)...then figure out a way to time them.

My 16 Valve car has original 32 V gears, probably due for replacement, using Ken's modification (below).
Works great. (Thanks to Ken and former owner Jadz)

Thanks Rog and Sean, these will help people for years to come!

BTW, is there anything to the theory that running Ken's tensioner reduces wear on these gears?

This was all Roger and Herman's deal, not me

In theory yes, because it will always keep a constant tension on the belt, no loose flapping belt, no over tightened belt, so it should cut down on the wear.

"both supercharged and uses a Gates Racing Timing Belt has now covered 17000 miles" sounded like your '88 Sean ...

Ahh, I can see how you'd get that. I've only got 5-6k on mine so far.

Roger, did you get my email (Michael)? I'm down for a set plus a Gates belt. I'll call you sometime after the Christmas holiday for a parts list. I hope to get my WP/TB done next month.

I'm already pushing 20 years and 57k miles on them!

Great that you finished this!

At approx 45k miles we did my TB/WP job and the timing gears had some wear on them... I put on the Gates racing belt and the Porkentensioner as well. After 20k miles we adjusted the cam timing and checked out the belt, etc.. No change in wear at all Not very scientific but there it is...
