Default Central warning issue troubleshooting

Current situation.

All exterior light work as they should. On start up of the car with lights off I do not get the "Stop Lamp" illuminated per the owners manual.

When I turn on the parking lights I get the "Parking light" annunciator and I get the "Stop Lamp" annunciator. The "Stop Lamp" annunciator will go out when I depress the brake pedal but illuminates again when the brake pedal is released.

When I turn on the head lights the "Parking Light" annunciator goes out and I still have the "Stop Lamp" illuminated. It goes out when the brake is depressed and comes back on when the brake pedal is released.

After a few moments I either get a "Master Warning" light illumination that cannot be reset or I also get the "Tail Lamp" warning annumciator and Master warning. Tail lamps are operational when the "Tail Lamp" warning is on.

History - When I got the car there were wires disconnected at the central warning unit connector.

Gray wire shows going to the "rear light" in the wiring diagram. Second wire is Brown and Gray and wiring diagram shows this for "brake pad" warning. I don't have the brake warning cables installed so I am not concerned about that one.

Is this all A Central warning box issue or something outside of the box that I can troubleshoot?

So your talking about the one under the dead peddle correct and that is where the wires were disconnected ?

The Lamp controller, bolted to the right parcel shelf feeds the power to the Tail (rear and rear side markers) and also the Stop lamps. so all six require the correct wattage bulbs (21 watt for the tail and stop, 5 watt for the side markers.

I had replaced all the bulbs early on but will double check them.

What makes me belive it is something else is the fact that when I start the car I do not get the stop lamp warning illuminated until I brake npedal is depresses per the owners manual.

That said I am not sure what that function validates or what component controls it.

Any one know?

So I bought a used central warning brain during the 1/2 sale.

The new to this car warning unit has the same symptoms!

After a few seconds/ moments I either get a "Master Warning" light illumination that cannot be reset or I also get the "Tail Lamp" warning annunciator and Master warning. Tail lamps are operational when the "Tail Lamp" warning is on.

Since i get the exact same issue with two different units I have to assume the issue resides somewhere else.

Thoughts?

Rear connector? Could you narrow that down a bit?

Ugh, sorry. i thought you had "connected" the wires you were talking about in you OP....

sounds like a cross up of some kind between the parking and stoplight wiring. like its "back feeding" when you turn on the parking lights....

I drove it to the Austin meeting today and same symptoms on the ride over.

However on the trip home the "STOP Lamp" warning went out. It comes on when the ignition is firts turned on but is out after start before hitting the brake and now on the tail lamp light comes on when the parking or headlights are on.

I did buy a full set of new bulbs today and will try that.

I also finally noticed today based on searches here that it appears the bulb check module should be mounted to the passenger side tray. Since my PO had removed the passenger side tray someone has mounted the bulb check module to a stud just above the fuse panel.

I need to pull that down and make sure I don't have something obviously wrong there.

I replaced all the bulbs in the tail light assemblies today. I had a mixed bag of manufacturers and replaced all with sylvania.

The tail light takes a 10W bulb. The turn, stop and back up lights take a 21W.

I could not find the small glass 10W bulbs for the tail lamp. I got a 9.3W for both but still have same symptoms. Will 9.3W cause issues with the bulb control box.

I will need to tackle the side markers next week end.
