Default Good price on a CDR-220

A good price on a Becker CDR-220 in the for-sale forum (no affiliation):
https://rennlist.com/forums/for-sale...220-200-a.html

More info on the CDR-220 in a 928 here:

You can't beat a CDR220! Jim helped me with mine (it is in my S4) and I LOVE IT!!! Looks like it belongs in our cars!

Bob, did you get it?! That is a great deal there for sure!

Default I bought it!

Hi James,

Yes, I bought the radio. Ever since I first saw the 'fighting bling...' thread I have wanted one of these, but when I found them for sale they were either in rough shape or twice the price. I have already contacted Jim to again thank him for finding the deal, and he has agreed to work his magic on the display. And the seller has already shipped it, so I should have it by mid-next week.

What a great forum.

Jim worked his magic on two of my CDR-220 panels. Nice radio that looks "right" sounds good to my old ears, and with Jim's magic, you can even read the Khz, etc. on the display.

better luck than me. My CDR-220 is 3-4 yrs old, the CD player doesn't work, the 2 control ***** have reacted with something and are 'mushy' and leave a black film on yr fingers, the LED display has just recently started to break down to the point that sometimes unreadable and the sound was never that good. I bought this new for some $400+

I was aware of the "mushy feel that can develop for these *****. The ones I bought had a very slight amount of that. I cleaned them thoroughly with solvent, and a few days later put 3-4 coats of vinyl black paint on them. No problems since then.

Randy,

The way they are designed you can't read the display from the drivers seat. Jim changes the LCD display characteristics and makes it so you can read them from the driving position.

In my case he also fixed my in-op CD player as well, because, well, he COULD and he is a total STUD! Thanks Jim!!!

lol so is this an actual Porsche product or does someone else make it.
I have to admit it does look stock and it does look old.

personally i went with something more modern that was close to a stock look until you turned it on, then most people say coool.

i am sure it will sell quick

Default Now Installed

First, in answer to 928mac, the CDR-220 radio was made by Becker.

I purchased the CDR-220 radio as recommended by Jim Corenman. The radio was in very nice condition and was supplied with new *****, as the originals had deteriorated with age, a common problem. After I received the CDR-220 radio, I sent the face plate to Jim for the display modification. Jim can mod the display two ways, fixed or adjustable. I decided to go with the adjustable modification in case I ever decide to move the radio to a different car or to sell the radio. I wanted to use the existing wiring harness in the 928 without any cutting/splicing, so I ordered adapter cables from Stefan Weiss of SW Stereo. I installed the radio two weeks ago, and it has worked out great. It looks very appropriate in the 928, and as Jim first wrote https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...at-a-time.html ], not too blingy.

Many thanks to Jim Corenman and to Stefan Weiss.

That looks great!

I'll have mine any day now and can't wait to get everything sorted out and the face plate to Jim. I better get a good before picture soon.

What does this mod entail?

Does it change the appearance of the radio or how it works or...?
