Default In need of a good alignment shop, Long Island, NY

I'm looking for a trustworthy alignment shop, preferably in eastern Suffolk Long Island, but if it's a good shop that is highly rated I'll go into Nassau. If anyone can recommend a good shop I'd appreciate it. The last alignment shop (Midas in Riverhead) did a four wheel alignment before I went to SITM but in looking at the inside of my NEW front tires a couple of weeks ago they had no idea of what they were doing. Thanks

I know this would be a fairly long drive for you, but Formula Motorsports / Long Island City has a digital 4-wheel alignment system.

I haven't been locally, but any shop w/Hunter is as sophisticated as it gets. As long as they understand not to raise tires off ground (which that system doesn't) then you are good to go, the computer tells the tech everything. You said you got new tires, I'm guessing at Midas and they didn't drive it to settle and then you get excessive toe-in. Any time it is lifted it will sit high. "Porsche has a tool for that" or you can drive it on rough road for 5 miles, YMMV. Smooth, it make take 50.

Midas had a John Bean machine which is computerized and the car wasn't lifted, I made sure of it. The tires were put on by another shop a couple of months before the alignment so no issues there. Also, I adjusted the suspension a couple of weeks before I took it in (on a leveled floor) and pulled the suspension back down myself so that wasn't the issue. I just think the guy who did it sucked at his job; too bad I tipped him $20. I spoke with them before hand about centering the steering but when I checked the alignment and steering centering recently it was off by quite a bit. I think I'll check to see how far the suggested shops are away from me and maybe give one of those guys a call as I need to get it fixed before Frenzy. Lastly, I recently changed the rear wheel bearings, wheel studs, and the left lower control arm, bushings, etc while "upgrading" the rear brakes to S4's, when I was done I did a home wheel alignment and it appears to be aligned better (as in even wear across the tire based on the chaulk test) but the trammeling is too much to be driving it 6 hours to Frenzy. Thanks for the help. I probably should of noted all this before hand, sorry.

Are you saying Formula charges $425 + tax? Do you get clean sheets with that?

Believe it or not, I'm going to print out the docs here and bring it over to Sears Auto Center in Hicksville.

I've heard the guys at the location are all semi-retired from shops and dealers and are car guys.

They have the latest Hunter machines and that is key. No lifting.

Michael - I did the same thing for my 82. I have not used a gauge on the tires, but a visual inspection appears uniform and it tracks well down the road.

The Porsche dealership in Southampton wanted $275, which I would have paid except they had to ask if they were able to do 928's, IMO $425 is rich for an alignment.

Mickster,
In addition to lifting I think the other key componant to this is making sure you get a before and after print-out of the alignment. I asked for a print-out after they completed my last alignment, that's when they told me the printer was broken

Pete,
I need to get it done before Frenzy so it will need to be either Friday or Saturday this week for me which may give me enough time. Let me know how you make out, I'd much rather come up by you as I can visit HF while I'm up there. I never miss an opportunity to buy another cheap tool I really don't need

Ok before alignment the car pull a litle to left , drove it home last night on the LIE it drove straight as an arrow perfect. $ 275.00 dollars well spent.
