Default Headlight issues and wiring diagrams

Hello All,

I have an issue with the headlights on my car, 1983 S model, kiln red, three speed, right hand drive, Australian delivery. I had a relay fail, which caused the lights to stay on at all times. Needless to say this flattened the battery. I bought a replacement relay, second hand, from a reputible 928 vendor, and all was well for a while. My issue is now that the lights will not come up or come on using the headlight switch. The parking lights come on fine. If I wind the lights up manually they still do not come on. However, when I turn the switch to the off position they retract perfectly. If I have the switch in the off position and try to wind the lights up manually, they come up a small way before then automatically coming all the way up and then back fully down. I still have the failed relay, that keeps the lights on. If I put this in, then the lights come on, and I have high beam as normal too, but the lights still will not raise. I have tried replacing the switch in the dash with a known good one. I have pulled the headlight motor out and cleaned the contacts inside. I have pulled the fuse panel and relay board out and cleaned that, with no obvious signs of a problem there. (That jobs sucks, by the way). I have tried wiggling the ignition swithc. I have now given up and I am going to take the car to an auto electrician. Does anyone have any thoughts on where he should look, after first checking the relay is working? CAn anyone provide me with correct wiring diagram for this section of the car, I need the RHD version?

Regards,

Jed in Sydney

I had this happen just last week. When I installed the switch in the pod it "pushed" one of the wires out the back of the plug. It was a red wire. Check to see it all the wires are seated in the switch plug.
