Its funny how much difference location makes. Here lots of folks drive cars that are pretty much purple or pink and it actually looks good.
PICS!!!!

Man. Over $43K in service receipts came with the car. AND NOBODY HAS EVER LOOKED AT THE STINKIN FLEX PLATE!!!!. I think I know what I will be doing on Saturday.

Really makes me appreciate rennlist. No expense was spared, but without inside knowledge it was not enough.

Also, kudos to Mark Benton for helping me get this without ever knowing it. There were several potential buyers, but I was the guy who showed up with a 928 intake manifold on his tee shirt and really knowing about the car. Since the seller was looking for someone to take good care I think it chinced the deal.

^^^ Mine has similar $$$$ receipts from the original selling Porsche dealer and they also didn't check some things that we all regard as normal maintenance.

If you want things done properly it seems that you have to do them yourself. There are only a few people I'd trust with my cars and they're all mechanics who are true 928 enthusiasts.

Brunei car is ROW model and there weren't any ROW '94 made with '93 MY setup so if wheels are original its '92-93 MY. Early '93 and '94 M718 option thing is purely US and Canada specific setup. Early '93 is in reality '92 MY car with '92 MY parts and early '94 is '93. Only '93 MY thing in early '93 it is is one letter in VIN. I bet engine and gearbox have '92 MY letter in them as they share same numbering sequence with ROW cars made at same time. All parts used on production line were '92 MY specific, all available colors and options were '92 MY specific etc.

Phone console is definitely factory part but might have been installed later on. There is exclusive department option code for it when it was installed at factory.

Karl,

Even having a GTS serviced by an independent shop can be expensive. When I bought the '94 in 2006, got full receipts for all work the independent shop in Houston had performed on the car since '96 (the independent shop gave me a printout). Just over $40K in charges over the ten year period!! The shop owner said "he always said 'do whatever it needs'". That owner had the Houston dealer do the service the first 2 years he owned it, and no receipts were available for that period.

Easy to see why these cars don't do well unless owned by wealthy individuals, or by those of us who have some capability for our own service, or access to friends in this community who help as well.

Looking forward to pictures, and mahalo for the PM.

Aloha,

Gary Knox

The previous owner did most of his own work on our GTS, and when we purchased it, there were $45K of receipts just for parts!

YEAH, that's awesome! Made my week! Big time congrats, Karl, and I'm looking forward to seeing more pics. I am smitten over the color.

I'll have some more good stuff to offer once I'm moved out of this shop at the end of June--sad to lose the man cave, but you gotta do what you gotta do, I guess.

Karl,

Congrats on a Great Score!!

I really like that color more and more, especially after having George's 91GT directly behind me during our SITM Parade. I was hanging over our Jeep's roll bar taking pictures with George right behind. I have to say that color looks great moving through the NC Mountains too!

I'll chime in with the rest of you guys... The '95 I recently bought had over $38k in receipts as well...most all of them from a dealership (dare I say STEALERship!) and it still seized its water pump on the way to me (thankfully no other damage done) and thus needed another $3100 from MY pocket to get it to Texas...I don't even like to think about what happened after that (the body shop still has the car and I have yet to even sit in it...let alone drive it).

The $3100 seems high, but it needed new cam gears (common in the 100k+ mile GTS's), T-belt, oil pump (or is it just the gears???), rollers, etc. etc. and they did the work in 24 hours...from tear down and clean up to back on the road! I was HAPPY to pay the $3100!

Still too dirty to photo and still have no skill, but this happened in the parking lot today and I could not resist. Too bad the background was not better, fresh wax, etc.
