My car has no mechanical issues, some minor electrical (non critical functions), and is an all around presentable driver. I would hate to consider stripping a good car but it's a shame when the resell value is so low on a car that has parts that are so sought after and expensive. I have always been about saving cars in the past, but I can see how a simple engine issue can quickly render it a parts car. It's a shame the 928 doesn't get the respect the 911 does on the used market.

Become a Rennlist member and post it here, the classifieds and member-to-member for sale. You'll have a good chance to sell it whole.

As far as parts--cars are usually worth more in parts than whole-that's why chop shops were so common here in New York City and elsewhere.

In Brett's case he got slammed for some of his prices yet, as you say, he made more than he would get for the whole car...there is a LOT of work to part out a car.

Mark Anderson has been doing it for a LONG time and over 1000 928's. It is a FULL-TIME job.

Diehard - where is your car advertised? No such luck finding your car through the AutoTempest search engine.

There are always different ways to look at things. Without good used parts from donor cars used 928's would be worth even less than they are now. It is also ironic that parting each car also makes the survivors worth just a little more. Kind of a catch22 is'nt it?

Yes, I did make out pretty well, money-wise. But, as many people warned me, it was a tremendous amount of hard work to completely dismantle the car and very time consuming, especially when including the time and trouble to arrange shipping on each and every part. I would probably not do it again, at least not any time soon.

Snap on tools sells a very good star socket that I have used on the cams. It is a little expensive but I have never once come close to stripping the bolts. They sell one for the crank shaft bolts.

I thought the motor was a good running motor. Why take it apart?

I just ordered the XZN mentioned in another thread. Hopefully they will do the trick. I think I need to pick up an impact wrench too.

Other than a possible cracked head, the motor was running. But nobody offered me anything reasonable for the entire motor, so
I am parting it out as well.

Will the rear set of Boge shocks/coil overs, etc swap directly into an 85?
