Default Dash coolant temp sensor location

My brother has a 1983 928 with an automatic transmission, and the temperature guage on the dash is all the way hot and the red light is on from the second the car is started up. We replaced one sensore with two wires coming out of it on the front of the engine, but it didn't change anything. Is there another temp sensor?

Thanks!

#56 is the temp ii sensor which helps govern fuel trim to the ljet brain. something to check off for future replacement at least.

Hi Lane,
Just an offtopic question about your nice 928. I notice that it doesn't have any spoilers which looks really nice I think! Have you just removed the front spoiler or is the front from a later model (I asume the rear spoiler simply has been removed).

Regards Sverker

I am guessing that the sensor issue has been fixed ?
From the info provided the wires were swapped on the temp sensor though there is a small and larger connector so in theory the wires will only fit one way

Sverker if you have a car with spoilers on it,
removal of the front will leave holes in the sides of the fenders and there will be air ducts hanging off the front of the bumper cover.

If the rear spoiler is removed then the rear window gaskets will have to be changed ,
as well as the window trims ,
as the gaskets are different for the quarter windows.
Also the 2 sides and lower hatch trims will have to be installed to replace the hatch spoiler
