Vacuum leaks
My cruise control does not work well and I have to press the throttle to start the engine so I guess I have a vacuum leak. I've already replaced the large hose that goes under the intake manifold and am now going after all of the rest. Any comments out there about special places to look besides replacing anything that remotely resembles a vacuum hose?
I should know by now to give the year. It is an '87 S4 with manual transmision.

If you have to press the gas to start the engine, you probably have something going on other than a vacuum leak. I would suspect a MAF that's about to pack it in.
As for the cruise, the most common problem is a progressive failure of the control "brain" that's under the dash. The symptoms usually start out as setting the cruise and the car will speed up on its own and then slow down, speed up, slow down, etc. Eventually it just stops working altogether. The problem is typically caused from numerous cold solder joints as a result of **** poor build quality from the manufacturer. Rebuilt/repaired boxes are available.
