Default Buying my 1st 928 this week

Edit: This an on-going thread to document the maintenance and modifications made to my '87 928 S4.

Plan is to fly to Seattle Wednesday and buy Steve's 87 928 S4. Stop off in Tacoma to visit Griot's Garage new facility. Then start my 2200 mile road trip to Dallas. Looks like I'll travel Seattle-Boise-Salt Lake-Denver-OKC-home. Crazy? Maybe, but what a way to buy a car and think of the road trip!

Sounds like FUN to me Andy! Glad you found a good one and an S4 too! Great call! If you had bought an S and it was not mine I would have been pissed though! LOL!

Best of luck Andy. Sounds like the trip of a lifetime. Just don't get too many tickets on the way.

Enjoy your road trip . Crazy is subjective. I call it living or adventure.
As long as you have money to make it home if it fails on you you will have a good time.
Did the same last year in August, I flew to Seattle to pick up my 87 S4 from a non Rennlister. drove it 3,400 miles to Virginia with no AC or radio. No tools or any idea of how to fix anything but the headlights. TB light came on in Michigan and again in Ohio.
I found a shop to tighten the tension even though the light was intermittent and made it home. Drove it 500 more miles before the TB job YMMV.
Funny thing was that after a two weeks of being home I joined the list and found out that while in Seattle I actually came face to face with Tom M. from the list as he pulled up next to me on my way out of town and gave me the thumbs up.
The only thing I wish I had done differently was to bring my camera and join the list prior to buying. There would have been some cool updates and photos to post along the way.

Have a blast!

Good luck Andy, looking forward to seeing it.

Be safe and call if you need anything. There will be plenty of Rennlisters along the way if you encounter any issues.

Awesome. I've done that 4 times now in a great car - two times in a Mustang, and twice in a shark. This is driving at it's best. Take good maps and get off the main roads from time to time.
Also, need pics of your new shark.

AAA card, maps, lap top and Rennlist app on my I-phone ... I think I'm ready
Thanks for all the help from the DFW Sharks.
I'm gonna need a new avatar!

Congrats and good luck on the road trip. Normally we don't like 928's leaving the area, but I guess we'll have to make another exception for this one.

Here was my setup for my cross country road trip when I flew to NJ and purchased my S4, then drove it home via the southern route in January 2007.

I had a great trip.

Hey Andy good luck on your trip, I hope it is uneventful,
I have done 4 shark trips and except for some minor issues they all seemed to run better after a long drive.
PS I am in Denver Colorado at I 70 and 225S, if you need an adjustment or some wrenching it can be arranged

Geesh, I thought I went a long way driving 9 miles down the road to Inyokern, California to get mine.
On my Trip back I stopped at Buttermilk Acres and got a Dr. Pepper. It was enough energy to make the last 4.5 mile trek home. I was exhausted when I got home, but still had enough energy to put her in the garage,
and BBQ some steaks for dinner! Dont ask me how I did it but, still one of my great road trips of Last month.

BTW Andy,
KillaV and I drove back from SITM (@1200 miles) in 13 hours. We would have been back quicker but we stopped for lunch in Memphis and it took 1 1/2 hours. (I think they are still looking for us in Arkansas 3 years later)

IIRC, Ed Hughes did 1000 miles in 10 hours for some reason. I am thinking he was picking up his S4 or something like that.

Based on our knowledge of the capabilities of the cars, and extrapolating your mileage, we should expect you back in DFW early Friday morning?

John-after my recent back surgery I'm going to take my time. Planning on driving 8 or 9 hours a day.
All hotels have hot tubs! Should be back in DFW on Saturday.

MrMerlin-thanks for your offer. I hope its a "non-wrench" trip
