Out of interest what is the total length of the harness and it's width. I am thinking of building a new harness for my 90 as a bit of a project and wish to build it without removing the present harness for the moment.

Here's a picture of the last '82 harness in the world. Took it today. $400 sitting here.

Has nothing to do with this thread, but the one it's replacing is going on a tack board so I can make more.

94" long when stretched out straight. I could measure the length of all the connections along the way, but anyone that's gonna build one had better have a harness in front of them to use as a template.

thats a pile of beans for some wires and connectors.......using a tack board/template is the way to get repeatable results. In the telecom world we had a whole dept dedicated to wiring, harnerss, molded connectors etc etc......not as simple as some precieve.

Carl's got some nice shots of the template/setup they use to build engine harnesses:

Rob.....thats a good example of how a template could be constrcucted but its even more practicle when its vertical to do the wiring of the harness then move it on to connectorizing at another stage. the harness can be held together with waxed string until connectors are placed and soldered and tested then it can be wrapped.

Ensure wire guages meet the amperage rating of the respective circuits and connectors are well sourced.

Got the harness back today and it looked great ...The oil level sender wire was broken, the starter circuit was messed up, the alt excitation circuit was run outside the harness..and the temp one was crusty too. All this was fixed up by Chris and heatshrink wrapped to keep it nice and dry.

Put in back in the car and reconnected everything... No smoke....and fired right up. I also put the GT brains back in and it idled great for the 5 minutes or so I ran it. Idled where it should, alt started charging right away, oil pressure right up to 5 etc...

More testing tomorrow to see if it cured my weird idle issues and the bad running in the rain.. keeping my fingers crossed..

Well...although I've got a nice front engine harness...the old issues still seem to be there. Backed out of the garage this am and it started the old..idle up....then down...then up.....but ran ok..till I headed out of the neighborhood...got to the main road and it started running really rough and no amount of throttle could clear it..(Belching black etc)...and then it died....cranked..and it started but I didn't want to take a chance..so back to the house..

Any thoughts?....I've swapped in a different brain and it did the same thing..so I think that rules that out. Temp II was replaced a few years back... Could the temp I cause this kind of issue? Any other thoughts?
