car is a 1989 Porsche 928 S4
This may seem like a stupid question but it would clear up alot of things. If I lock my car and the red blinking light comes on at the top of the lock does that mean it is some old kind of alarm system or a vehicle disabling device?

i bought a remote starter and keyless entry system and will probably try and install it in a week or so.

Now theirs a wire that is supposed to connect to iginition wire. The installation says the ignition wire it slices into will have 12 Volts before after and during starting. Now does anyone know the color of this wire? Also the instructions want me to use the wires from under the ignition cylinder (near the stearing wheel) . Has any one managed to use the wires that connect to the eletrical panel on the passanger side? Also does this vehicle have an ignition 2 wire? What about two starter wires?
I am going to try and collect as much information from every one before I start cutting up wires. The video made the installation on a generic car look easy. The remote start / keyless entry is a Ready Remote Model 24923. Another question I have is about the accessories wire. Are their two of them in this car? Is it common to connect the accessories wire output from the module directly to the battery? also are their two starter wires?

my suggestion sell the elex stuff you bought and stay away from the wiring on your 928, its not necessary and in the long run you will have more problems with it than leaving things alone

There's already an alarm system of sorts in the car now. The blinking LED's on the lock ***** do idicate that the doors are locked and that the system is 'armed'. The factory system integrates with switches in the door locks themselves so it can detect when the door is opened with the correct extended key. Using the wrong key, or unlock a key-locked door by turning the inside lock **** will trigger the factory alarm. openieng the hood or the hatch will do the same thing, as will sliding out the original radio from the original mounting sleeve.

Adding another alarm on top of the original one is not a good idea. For instance, using a keyless-entry system that you might wire in to the factory lock motor circuits will cause the factory alarm to go off if the car was locked with the key from the outside. Folks who get keyless entry systems may also want to assign a fob button to unlatching the rear hatch lock. To do that though, you also need to fool the hatch motor circuit into thinking that one of the front doors is open. There are ways to do that, but again, as soon as the factory alarm sees a front door open without using the correct key, it will alarm with horns and lights. Bottom line is that you should plan on disabling the factory alarm before you have another alarm or keyless-entry system installed.

Now on to the big problem. Only a very few folks seem to be able to install an aftermarket alarm correctly on these cars. Take the car to Tom & Jerries Alarm Super Store, and you are most likely to get someone who truly believes the alarm manufaturers' information book, where you just poke around with a voltage probe until you find power, again for the ignition wire, and another for the horn circuit. Oh yeah, these two wires will ground something that causes the locks to go up and down. We'll just connect the new wires to the old ones with these handy little imitation ScotchLock piggyback connectors and it will all work fine. Uh-huh. Blown fuses if you are lucky, melted wire bundles it it's a typical hack effort. Lots of potential for damage to the car.

Recommendation: Unless YOU are the expert doing the installation, and you really are an expert, leave well enough alone. Maybe you have a friend you trust to do it right? Well, maybe.

Or lets say you install that nifty remote starter, the engine starts and its only running on 4 cylinders ( but you dont know that from your comfy seat in the kitchen) so you leave it to warm up for 5 mins and come out, and figure maybe i have to rev the engine to make it run smother , so then you put it into drive and find the car wont move.
Come to find out your drive shaft has snapped because it was running on 4 cylinders. DOH!

Ahh.."What was that oath that alarm installers take? The hypocritical oath "Do No Harm"? " ...... since most are paid a flat rate per install they do not spend ANY TIME reading the wiring diagrams......having seen more butchered 928s than most I used to think 90% of the 928 electrical problems were caused by radio and alarm installs. The other 10% relays Remote starting a car is a very bad idea unless it is under a full warranty ....

if your looking for cool things to do to your car just save up for an X pipe,
you wont see much of it but you will feel it every time you step on the gas

Last time I had a break in on a 928 was in a parking lot in down town San Jose, CA, and that was 1986, and the car was 4 years old. No one tries to steal a 928 now, no aftermarket :-)

Or better yet you install that nifty remote start device and since you have an 88 it doesnt have the cool relay with red and green lights ,
after starting the car you confirm its running by the smoke from the tailpipe,
anyway one of the coil wires decides its had enough and is now grounding out on the ABS brake lines.

Meanwhile your happily munching down your last piece of French toast, figuring in 5 mins I will be driving my 928 .
Anyhow the Cats under the car are beginning to glow cherry red from all of the extra fuel from 4 cylinders not being fired , in 5 minutes you come out to find your 928 smoking badly from under the center of the car and before you know it flames are rising up both sides and your nice car is now waiting for the fire department to come put it out.
Yes an X pipe is a better deal!
