Any experience with "sticking piston rings" on dormant engine?

Got the engine back in. A day on my back under the car and a day on top and should be ready to start.

It's amazing what you can get done with trial and error(and no job). I discovered I had no pilot bearing installed. I guess the automatics don't have one? Lucky I had a spare. This will be a much improved version.

Guys,
As a Qualified Diesel Mechanic I'm going to come out in support of Brad, Diesel is no good for many 'O'rings and seals. Engine seals in petrol or diesel engines are not directly exposed to fuel, only oil, and the oils are not so dissimilar.Caterpillar even make '0'rings exposed to different situations, different colours, nice and simple for the American folks, eh Brad.
Diesel dilution of engine oils is a serious and intolerable situation, to be remedied immediately, as diesel breaks down the lubricative properties of engine oil.
As for cylinders, I always assumed that cylinders were machined parallel, no taper. But you know what assume will do? make an *** out of U and ME ! I'll investigate that one more.
So Gunar is going to soak his pistons and bores in Auto Trans Fluid and see what happens ?
Cheers Roy

Thanks for the compliments. I need that. Almost done under the car. Just put the clutch back in which is a suck a** job. Just when I thought I was gonna have to quit due to me being as weak as a kitten I got it lined up in the dowels. It doesn't take a long time but it concentrates a lot of pain into a short amount of time.

Good luck.
It was nice to see that it is going forward as you wanted with out major problems.
If you notice that there is a lot of tickle your feet vibration as you get close to 6000 rpm then you may have to drive it easy or take it out and send all the parts to a shop for balancing. I don't think you should have a problem though.
If it was going on the track then! it would need to be closer so that it would handle the strain.
If you want to see a nice job on a engine, Look at that nice brown car that belongs to Sterling.

Almost done here. Addressing my leaking passenger radiator end tank as the last step. I am following J Howell great post on how to do it.https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...king-tabs.html and I got the parts from Roger for about $80. Think I can fire it up this evening...... Gunar

Can one technically balance an engine with a scale? Or do you need those spinning machines? I assume the latter.
