sanded and chemical stripped drivers front fender and top again. removed carpet from driver's side. removed headliner and banged out four dents in the top. took the alternator in to our local electric motor place and it was tested and found to be working fine. 90 amp Paris Rhone.

finished stripping the roof down to bare metal, and have about 90% of the hatch stripped as well. Front quarters are striped down too, although I found bondo on both beneath many coats of paint.

Washed it up for KCPCA breakfast tomorrow morning and Daytona watch party. Was filthy from driving in wet weather last week.

Cold windy day in NorthEast, decided to clean up the rear metal belly pan, since it was still off the car after an oil change, can't wait for spring.

Put a new vinyl skin on my headliner, Picked up carpet. When the weather gets warm again down here, I'll go out and start fitting pieces.

Reinstalled passenger bank of fuel injectors....put them in and neglected to use any loctite or other sealant to help the o-rings and was cursed with leaks....already did the drivers side on Tuesday...also took out that vortex thing-a-ma-crapcan that's supposed to help the brakes...cleaned that up and also used some loctite 518 on the intake boots...I have peeling enamel and the metal underneath is very rough so an airtight seal is basically impossible on my intakes without help. I have more brake pedal than I've ever had since I've owned the car...and not by a small amount...had no idea things were so bad...

So of course with all the new found vacuum I found out the oxygen sensor is basically utterly shot...it's been drinking gas even worse than it should..for a while now...and with the thing air tight it drives like it's under water...lucky I have an '86

Unplugged the O2 sensor and hot-rod tuned it with the MAF pot..took me about an hour..I got it in 5 tries I think....really runs great ! New O2 sensor on the way....

Earlier this week, I received a new battery charger that I had ordered from Amazon.com.

Today, I unpacked and connected it in trickle charge mode. This should ensure I have enough juice for tomorrow.

Took the beast to the Norcal928 breakfast and joined the group for a little fun drive. As usual, it performed flawlessly.

Started it for the first time since Dec of 15, pushed it out of the garage while the wife steered, and put her up on the lift. Began the process of dropping the rear suspension, and swapping out the broken transmission.

Just got my new front end wiring harness for the 81. Pretty cheap at $370 from Porsche considering how complex it is. It only took a month to get here from Germany...

Gonna put it in tomorrow and see how many electrical gremlins go away

Took delivery of my '79 petrol blue/cork after extensive detailing and wheels fixed. Oh boy, the car reminds me of why I love petrol blue/cork so much and made me sell the Weissach #155 instead of this when I picked up another '79 that's now being customized by Greg Brown.

Had the day off from work, so got quite a bit done:
  • Installed the new 1/0 gauge starter cable from genuinedealz.com - Wound the heat-prone areas, where the heavier insulation on the old cable was, with high-temp self fusing silicone tape & 35mm heat shrink on top of it. Routed the cable from battery to starter via the same route as the old one. It was tight in some areas, but fit just fine. Installed w/ a few new mounting brackets and the remainder the old grungy ones. Need to tighten up the run a bit, but really happy with the fit.
  • Mounted the underbody heat shields, which were cleaned and painted for rust protection, with new hardware.
  • Mounted the Borla exhaust. Next up - headers & y pipe.
  • Buttoned up the front headlamps after replacing with LEDs. Need to do a bit of adjustment, but mostly done.
  • Installed the front sidemarkers with new gaskets & LEDs.
  • Cleaned the garage and reorganized my tools after a bit of chaos.

The large pile of new hardware continues to shrink....
