PorKen recently fitted a counter-spring to an S3 linkage to overcome pedal resistance.
Maybe something like that would help.

One less thing doesn't work on my '89.

The half price sunroof transmission arrived from 928 International - pull the roof panel, two bolts, and it works perfectly.

As to the rest, well the list is long, but getting shorter.

cant really complain about my shark. looks good and runs great.
total currently spent, incl purchase and all parts I have. ~ $ 6k

currently inop:

headlight washers - don't care.
repl'ed the WW pump, new filler neck, cleaned tank. seems jets clogged.
high pressure WW - don't care and removed check valves/hoses during above work.
cruise control - don't care
rear hatch release - don't care

what needs work, even though not the exact question:
(planning to do some of these this winter, but probably wont get all done due to also working on 911)

sun roof switch getting reluctant - have new one.
need MM - have them
new shocks - have them
oil pan gasket - have one. snugged all bolts and not dripping for now.
very minor oil sepage from cam towers, not bad enough to worry so far.
rear muffler - exhaust does not leak, but pumpkin baffles must be rusted out based on the sound. repl w/magnaflow on the list for this winter.
refresh gas tank, fuel lines, preempt repl fuel pump.
one crack in pod, dash leather not cracked but pulled back from windshield vent.
ODO inop. actually think a wiring issue rather than gear.

what has been fixed on my watch:

repl cat w/Y pipe due to exhaust leak
AC - O ring repl/charge and blew ice cold rest of summer
fixed all noticiable leaks over the past two years, mainly PS & tranny
intake refresh,fuel lines, coolant hoses/heater valve, plugs/wires/coil/dist/rotor

PO did:
TB/WP
brakes/tires

PRND32 lights on my dash. Everything else on the dash works fine.

I've checked all the connections on the back of the dash, and transmission switch (tried 2 different ones). Still no dice

Not working or needs parts, on my MY 85.

1. Fog lights. New relay coming someday. Hope that's it.
2. A/C. Stopped working this summer. Haven't looked into why yet.
3. Main windshield washer pump. Replaced with new but was only working intermittently. Need to try some new check valves. I have them just haven't got to them. I use the intensive pump/reservoir if needed. This isn't very often.
4. Red light on passenger's door
5. Cruise control doesn't hold speed.
6. Passenger side rub strip is slightly pulling away in the center. Not real bad.
7. Slight oil leak. Sometimes nothing at all.
8. 2 chrome wheels leak a little air.
9. Chrome on 3 wheel center caps need redone.
10. Missing cap on the passenger side hatch release. Waiting for that too.
11. Driver's side bolster needs redyed. No holes though.
12. Leather on steering wheel needs re-threaded.
13. Cracks on pod and dash. Not real bad though. I can live with them as long as they don't get worse.
14. Driver's side central locking doesn't work. Passenger's side does.
15. Over head lights don't go on when doors or hatch opens. Will switch on though.
16. Couple tools missing.

All very minor stuff that I will look at this winter after the holidays.

This thread actually got me to fix a little thing that had been bothering me for awhile:
That crappy little power mirror 'joystick' control switch.
Over the years, movement in all 4 directions had started to become notchy. Then the outward tilt wouldn't work without jiggling the toggle side to side; then the tilt down wouldn't work. Having to reach across the passenger seat to adjust my pass. mirror earlier this summer made me realize how unacceptable this faulty switch was.
I figured that maybe this switch/control is serviceable. Considering that it's a $75 part new, it was certainly worth looking into. It's also one of the more accessible switches in the whole car. Turns out it is serviceable, and w/a little patience, grease on the spring pins and contact cleaning w/a dremel, this toggle works smoothly in all directions.
Thanks for the inspiration, Greg

Got plates today. No inspection! 50 bucks and I was out the door. Being a 79 they valued my car at 100 bucks. So cheap, cheap, cheap!

Thanks Greg....Your the man!

So far I have had some intermittent failure of the HVAC head, possibly a relay there is going, but it is getting more and more reliable with daily use. Sometimes these old Porsches respond to use really well, they come back to life or something.
The AC, while recently redone with new compressor, seems to not work. When I tested it it seems that the belt came off the compressor, so not sure what that is about.
The windshield washers have not been used in years, so they need some love. The pump seems OK, because the headlight washers are working, although they currently spray black cruddy water all over the car, so that's going to be dealt with.
Front up-down switch on passenger seat is broken.
Intensive washer--who even knows? I may never get around to that little system.

Seems like everything else works; for $14K, I'm dang happy so far.

Best wishes to those with much longer lists.

-Sean
Spent a while trying to get the intensive washers to work. Assumed the pump or the switch was dead. Then I tried pushing the switch instead of turning it. Hey presto! They work great.

When I got my 86.5 in April '10 the list of problems was more than a page long.

Fixed most issues, but still some todo's:

-odometer gear
-intermittent wipers dont work
-oil pan leak
-rear hatch release (insert?)
-cruise does not always hold speed

For the rest, I got pretty much everything sorted with relatively low effort.
Fixing the rear defrost relay was a bit of a challenge, but it paid off :-)

My alarm system lights on the door locks flash twice now, think it is because I had the stereo replaced and the original had an anti-theft circuit that is no longer there. Everything else works as far as I can tell. Does need some routine maintenance soon - new fuel lines, A/C service. One thing I wish didn't work so well is the tire pressure warning, very annoying.

- Passenger door window motor
- Passenger door lock (Can only be unlocked from inside the car)
- Both door mirrors control
- Rear speaker (I re-wired the stereo and front speaker with higher grade stuff, rear speakers are next with 80 watts 5-ways speakers. )
- AC
- Rear Defrost (May have damaged it while removing the burnt tint)
- Lately the dashboard stopped showing the motor revolution
- Passenger windshield nuzzle only drip... doesn't spray. Pump work find... I think I will need to replace the piping in the hood and the nuzzles.
- I broke the gas lock. Doesn't really matter and don't plan on fixing it.
- Whole car need to be repainted. Whoever did the last paint did a terrible job with the clear.
- Never found out how to make the headlights nuzzle spray anything.
- Never managed to make the cruise control work. Not that it really matters.

Everything else work fine. Surprisingly.

POS THIEVING *** MECHANICS!!!

Sorry, not to bash any of you mechanics on here, but I have had nothing but bad experiences with mechanics for any of my vehicles in the past 5 years, save one.

Happy to say there's nothing that doesn't work...and if ever something stops working I can't help myself - it has to be fixed yesterday!

If anyone asks if it's expensive to maintain, I just tell them it only costs about the same as a small hatchback each year to run...if you know what I mean...lol
