Love to have the Rambler.
As I get older , it seems that I want the older cars.

Goofy perhaps but one of my dream cars would only cost perhaps less than $8,000.
A 1928 model T speedster. The type that the community raced at certain events.- Almost barren. BUT man I love it. Large bucket seat- for 2, nothing behind you besides the gas tank and differential.
So outstanding.
Could picture my Son and I driving one on the gravel roads north of where I live. Looking like Navin R. Johnson hitch-hiking with the leather helmet and goggles.
Sort of like living history.
I'd like to post a shot of the car but I'm not computer knowledgeable.- Total frustration anyways.

Cars I've owned

68 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon - First car, got it for $1. Was a great party wagon. Gave it to my brother.
71 Plymouth Satelite Sebring Plus - 383 with 2 2bbl carbs, a hot rod muscle car.
64 Ford Econoline Van - I mowed lawns it was my mobile tool shed.
70 Audi 100LS - great car for dates, most college girls thought it was a Mercedes.

In college I had the 3 vehicles above. By the time I graduated I had to sell the Van and the Satelite then the Audi spun a bearing. Rebuilt the Audi, it made it 250 miles before throwing a rod thru the block. The torque wrench I used was inch lbs instead of ftlbs. After college traded the broken down Audi to a co-worker for...

77 Cutlass Salon - Part hot rod, part chick magnet. Hey it was the 80's and full on disco, it was gold and even had an in-dash CB radio.
78 GMC Jimmy - Got into the camping thing for a while.
76 Porsche 914 2.0 - My first Porsche, lots of fun.
81 GMC Jimmy - A real 4x4 with huge tires and a lift kit. Built up and installed hot rod 400ci = Monster truck.
87 Jeep Cherokee - Went everywhere the Jimmy did with more comfort, especially on the highway.
88 Jeep Cherokee Limited - Cheaper to trade up than add cruise control and rear window defog to the 87.
91 Mazda MPV 4x4 - Traded in Jeep because found Chrysler had turned the Jeep into a fall apart piece of junk in 88.
94 Chevy Astro LS - Got to cart brother with MS and a wheel chair around. Chair wouldn't fit in Mazda.
88 Porsche 944 Turbo S - Looking for a 928 and sold Astro so got this as temporary Porsche until I found a 928. Very fast and got me into autocrossing.
90 Porsche 928 GT - Took 4 years, but I found a nice one.

Had both the 944 Turbo and the 90 GT for a while. But eventually just couldn't afford upkeep on 2 Porsches. Sold the 944 Turbo to Lindsey Racing, they still have it.

01 Porsche Boxster S - Test drove one and they made me a lease offer I couldn't refuse. Again with the 2 Porsches thing, forced to sell the 928.
96 Isuzu Trooper - Got it to have something to drive in ice and snow. Sold within a couple of months because heater sucked.
04 VW Passat - Got for winter driver. Great little 4 door and did really well in winter.
89 Porsche 944 Turbo - Boxster went off lease and thought this would be a fun 2nd car toy.
05 BMW 325i - Replaced Passat as daily driver/winter car. First long trip seat in the Passat made my butt hurt and caused nerve damage, VW bought it back.
07 BMW X3 - Traded in 325i so I could carry stuff.

Current cars...

94 Prorsche 928 GTS - Got rid of very problematic 944 Turbo. Found this Iris Blue Metallic GTS and couldn't talk myself out of buying it. I REALLY LIKE THIS CAR.
92 Land Rover Range Rover County - X3 went off lease got this as cheap replacement ($800) 4x4 for winter driving. Complete opposite of GTS.

I drove my parent's 1995 Dodge Caravan before I bought my own car. What an upgrade! Every time I get back into the caravan I feel like I'm driving a truck!!!

When I saw your post I said out loud-HOLY!
Now which one was the most fun to drive?
Not talking about, cachet, or chick magnets, but fun driving it on your own and why?

- I tell you- I owned a 1977 Honda Civic.- It wasn't my favorite'***** magnet'- so to speak, but damn, it was fun to drive on the gravel roads!- Perhaps a bit of a percentage more fun than the UR-QUATTRO- Maybe, because I could abuse it to heck and not care about the paint and such .hmmm

What a special car.
Why?
Owned the Healey for 20 years and had restored it in 1977. Only drove it 20K miles in 20 years, and wanted a new toy, and always wanted a 928. Bought the S4 with 23K miles in 1996 and now have 92K. Only regret is that the Healey today in that condition would be worth $$$.

I owned a number of cars before the 928 but they were daily drivers. My previous fun car was (and is) the Lotus Esprit. This was my first car love, and I don't plan to ever sell it. I bought the 928 later, but have found myself far more involved in the 928 community than the Esprit community over the years.

Best car, oh man that is hard...

The 68 Ford Wagon with the huge front bench seat was the best for sex. The worst was the Jimmys, I had to put complementary jog bras in the glove box for off roading dates or dates would complain that it made their breast hurt.

After spending an afternoon off roading in the Range Rover this summer I would have to say it is the best for off road agility. I didn't have any trouble following my brother on his Polaris through some pretty wild stuff.

The 71 Plymouth was the best sleeper street rod. Man, that Mopar thing could out stop light drag just about anything and that was with plain ol' narrow street tires. It had so much torque it would pop motor mounts AND chains. Local garage owners that worked on it drag raced and offered to trade me even for a Ford GT40. I declined because I thought it was one of those VW kit cars. After they sold it I found out it was the real thing and could have kicked myself.

The 914 was the funnest for zipping around town. It was tiny and powered and geared so you felt like you were racing when you were just driving around going the speed limit.

The 88 Turbo S was the fastest car for accelerating from the 60 to 120. The turbo really egged you on. If you tried to drive around town normally the turbo would start to kick in just as you were about to shift. It was like the car was saying "come on, let's go faster."

The BoxsterS was the best autocross car, but still felt like it needed more power. Twitchy at speeds above the posted limit made tiring on road trips.

The 90 928GT was the best sounding and the fastest road trip car. The 90 GT with stock cats, resonators, and RMB sounded musical. It was the fastest road trip car because the engine deceleration made braking from high speed as you approached traffic unnecessary. Was able to average 100mph on 1000 mile trip including stops for grub and gas.

The BMW 325i was the most comfortable car driving around town, etc. conversely the X3 was the worst as it was annoyingly jostling.

Either of the 928's are the most comfortable for road trips.

Now for the best all round favorite car...

The 94 928 GTS bing bing bing bing. Only ties for most comfortable on road trips, and edges out the 90GT on autocross because it is faster and brakes don't overheat. Does everything else so well it gets best overall.

The Esprit is a dream car.
I love the 1st. rendition to the last.
I am on a Lotus forum-to learn.- Love to own one and become educated about it.
-Could get a deal- $30,000-40,000. Like the 928 , heck of a lot of value for the money!
Smart, wise choice for a Drivers car. Light, nimble and no- b.s. Maybe the wing though -a bit - on the more recent versions.

Wow.
Have you written about the car on this forum?- perhaps then I could look it up!
Envy your ride!!! Any pics???

Have had 4 911s and 4 NSXs before finally buying the 928. All these years, I had wanted to get the 928. My black NSX was supercharged by a company named Comptech. It was an absolutely blast.

Mike,
The Esprit is definitly a car to get excited about, IHMO. The Esprit and the 928 are very differnt cars, but I think that they both fit into the underappreciated iconic sports car category. The Lotus crowd is pretty good, but there just aren't as many enthusiasts out ther compared to the 928 due to the low production numbers.
Here's a pic of my Esprit:

I love my Esprit, which makes it even more amazing how I've paid far more attentiion to the 928s over the past few years as compared to the Lotus.

Miss it. Enjoyed it more than my second gratifying car-the S4.
sigh.

The 87 Supra I met the wife unit with...will miss it, but it was time.

A video from back in the day:

http://www.speedtoys.com/~gemohler/a...rags-large.mpg [5.0 too slowww in rear window]

..not much to do on a Weekend in Tulsa...this was run. $5 all night long.

Main other car now, 04 Rx8. Drives like a paperweight after a week in the 928, and I feel like im sitting up in a truck by comparison...a great car, widely misunderstood, but takes me back to racing in Pro7 (1st gen RX7s) a lot. I did that class for yearrrrz. Damn cheap fun that was.

..then it turned into $20,000 miatas with BIG budgets to keep up with the cheaters.

I'm a big NSX fan and hope to add one to the collection at some point. My dad owns a cherry '94. He bought it years ago, and it's worth at least as much today as it was 5 years ago.

I'd love to get my hands on an UR-Quattro as well. Unfortunately, they are a bit hard to find.
