Some claim Ferrari was copying the styling from the Corvette when designing the Daytona.......

Looks closer to a 924. Not anywhere near a 928.

tell him to just enjoy what he wants and leave his neg vibes for some one who cares about his opinion.

As the former owner of a Datsun 240z no doubt in my mind at all. The lines of the 928 are unique from either car.

I read a quote from Tony Lapine somewhere about the basic design. He said it's very much a car that people instantly like or instantly don't like.

He said when you ask a small child to draw a car, they draw a beetle. When you ask them to draw a fast car they squash it down. (or something to that effect).

There is nothing inherently new about the very basic shape of the car, the uniqueness is in the way different parts of it were handled.

The plastic molded bumpers front and rear, the engine and stance, the transaxle, the Weissach suspension: All unique (more or less) answers to the same problems.

The lines are similar but Porsche gave the car a unique look. Almost a mix of the Muira (SP?) & Daytona but in a drive-able package

Ferrari had 928 style front engine - TT - gearbox at back drivetrain in their front engine two seater V12's 5 years before 928 design started.

Exactly. I think there were some American cars that did this too, as well as cars that had the alusil block and other design elements that found their way into the 928 in one form or another.

The idea of a front engine car with transaxle and rear trans was not new, but the implementation was their own design and contributed to the design/function of the car.

Don't shoot the messenger but I've repeatedly heard that the car shown below was an inspiration to the styling team in Weissach:

Your dad is confusing the Dino to the Lamborghini Miura.

Once again, the original inspiration along those lines is the Corvette....

1965 Mako Shark II show car which lead to the 1968 Corvette:
