Aluminized X pipe is $420. Cats are $305 for the pair and an install kit is $40.

Aluminized is marginal at best. Is the X-pipe not available in stainless?

Frank,
Most of us here in Texas have aluminized steel and still looks as good as new even though they are over 5 years old.
Stainless Steel is $575.

If it's "just as good" then why not make the system and hardware out of it and save some bucks? You don't want to see the Flowmaster system on my Scout II Just giving you a little grief Roger. I appreciate your contributions and will gladly pay the minor difference in cost to have similar materials/construction throughout.

Due to the fact that we sell the X pipe system all over the World we need alternatives.
What works in Texas will not work in Scotland.

Maybe the manufacturer will consider a aluminized steel version as an economy model

Nope, they won't. Reconfiguring everything to use aluminized mild steel won't save much money, it's all in the labor. The cost difference between stainless and aluminized materials for the cat back system is not enough to even consider it.

The mufflers are stainless and they will last accordingly, their life span being aluminized wouldn't be even half as long. Aluminized mild steel works great for the crossovers because they don't "store" condensation like the mufflers do.

We have not had rust through problems with any of the crossovers yet and hopefully we won't see any for a long time yet. We were doing HPC Coated initially but enough people wanted stainless that we switched. The stainless should last the lifetime of the vehicle in both the crossovers and the cat back systems.

BTW Frank,

Aluminized is marginal at best?

We have quite a few aluminized crossovers on local cars that are driven year around here in Salt Lake City. They do use de-icers in the winter and none of them are showing any signs of structural failure. You can compare our weather to Denver...

That was my line of thinking from the start. With the investment you are making into a quality product- why not just spend a bit more to ensure that the product lasts the life of the vehicle. Do it right the first (and hopefully- last) time.

We sell aluminized crossovers probably 5 to 1 over the stainless, we let the customers decide. Like I said, we haven't had a single problem with the aluminized yet and there are several hundred crossovers scattered all over the world.

There are some folks that want stainless regardless, that is why we offer the option. I actually preferred the HPC coated for appearance and am sure that they would outlast the vehicle.

Because I reside in Texas means I am limited to operating my vehicle(s) in Texas? I moved here from Florida. Park your vehicle two blocks from the beach for a few years and see how well it holds up. Like I said- I have a complete aluminized exhaust system from another manufacturer and I am about to have it replaced as I am unable to pass the Texas vehicle inspection. My experince with the subject matter- yours may differ. Not an issue for me as you make the x-pipe in stainless. Fair enough?

Fair enough.

I won't have our mufflers built out of aluminized because of the reasons stated. Very rarely have I seen even a complete aluminized exhaust rust out anywhere other than the muffler or tailpipe. (or immediately around it) Usually the front of the exhaust is still rock solid long after the muffler/tailpipe rot away.

I guess we really are agreeing more than dis-agreeing.

Absolutely. I am very pleased with the products/service that Roger provides to the 928 community. I believe that I will be able to say the same for your product. When will your website be active?

I was at Dave's shop during prototype. They were pretty dedicated to this product being top of the line with no alternative options or materials. I remember their hold up being a quality muffler supplier and from the sound of the Texas guys the wait paid off!
I heard this on a GTS on a lift and if it is similar to that, it is a real head turner! Turn a GTS into a muscle car pretty fast!
Great work Dave!

So dumb question, if I run it with out cats and later want to put cats on because me city gets green, will it be as simple as removing an extension pipe and installing the cats? I imagine this would apply to people that only have the cats on when they're sniffed too.

I'm holding out for the dyno results; but, if the x-pipe and cat-back results are as great, I'm in. Just trying to gauge the cost of the gift for my wife... do I need to add another $400 for cats.

Thanks Rog! / Bruce
